Horror D'Oeuvres
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Horror is punching way above its weight right now, and it’s not an accident. We kick things off with quick life updates and entertainment news, then we get into the bigger question that’s been hanging over theaters all year: why are smaller horror movies pulling people in while “guaranteed” blockbusters struggle to feel exciting?
We talk through what’s working, from low budget horror economics to the one thing audiences can’t resist: originality that actually commits. Obsession becomes our main case study, because it’s the kind of psychological horror that doesn’t rely on cheap jump scares, it relies on choices, consequences, and that creeping feeling that something is deeply wrong. We debate where the villain line really starts, why the story hits so hard, and how horror can make you leave the theater feeling gross in a way that proves it did its job.
From there, we widen the lens: superhero fatigue after Endgame, why Marvel trailers often show too much, and how practical effects and craft (shout out The Odyssey) can make a movie feel like an event again. We also trade horror recommendations, argue for anthology style storytelling as the genre’s secret sauce, and shout out favorites like The Shining, The Conjuring, Hereditary, Midsommar, and Paranormal Activity 2.
If you’ve been craving scary movies that feel fresh, or you’re burnt out on franchise homework, hit play and come argue with us. Subscribe, share this with your horror loving friend, and leave a review with your pick for the best horror movie of all time.

SPEAKER_00That was pretty sick. Yeah. It lit up and everything. It was really neat.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Everybody know today's topic. Because I know we got we got stuff we gotta get to.
SPEAKER_04Yep. In the famous words of Grizz, whores. Oh, I'm sorry, whore or whore or whores. Whore or ores.
SPEAKER_00Horror d'oeuvres.
SPEAKER_04Or d'oeuvres. Whore d'oeuvres.
SPEAKER_02Is that when is that when she's laying on the table and you like eat the food off of her? Yes, that's actually.
SPEAKER_04You eat the olive out of her belly button.
SPEAKER_00That's actually. Okay. If we're all ready. Sounds like we're we're all greased up. Lubed up here. Lubed up here. See if I can get this one off this show. Um Chris wants to die right now. Welcome back to another beautiful episode of the FMJ podcast where we make all of your wildest fantasies come true. I'm just kidding, we don't do that. Unless Yeti interrupts your intro and says, How do I sound? How do I sound?
SPEAKER_07Oh man. Beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. Did uh did we actually do a proper intro of this go around? Man, I don't know if y'all I don't know if y'all listened to the last episode, but I could not stop laughing. No, just the whole thing. The whole thing from the your microphone going out to the Jeffrey Donnie thing where he was just like Yet he's just like, okay, who the fuck is Jeffrey Donnie? Oh man. It was one of the funniest shits.
SPEAKER_02My favorite part of that whole thing was you blurted out Jeffrey, I blurted out Donnie. Yeah. And then he just mashes them together. We were both like, no way. Yeah, we're gonna run with it.
SPEAKER_00And Jeffrey Donnie is now in R Electronics. So I feel like Jeffrey Donnie will now become a staple of the show. That's that's kind of what that's kind of what we're we're we're thinking here. So anyway, uh I know we've got everybody has a lot to do today,
Pulse Check And Life Updates
SPEAKER_00and we do kind of have a little bit to cover in entertainment news. So let's quickly go around Zirum. And Grizz, what's your pulse look like today?
SPEAKER_02Um well, I got my iced coffee and my cup that has my face on it.
SPEAKER_04Oh, my glasses. Does that mean you're drinking yourself?
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't know how to answer that. How do you taste? Uh I taste like maple syrup. I have maple flavored iced coffee right now. Dude, alright, everyone that's listening, listen. Cold brew with half and half creamer and a splash of maple syrup. Spa! You're welcome.
SPEAKER_00That sounds good.
SPEAKER_02It's the best thing ever. Yeah, that's good.
SPEAKER_00No, it is. But uh here's my thing. I don't drink coffee.
SPEAKER_02So that's alright. We'll find you something. You could probably do it with a tea. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh, okay. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, honestly, I'd be okay with that. Alright, well that's it. Sounds like you're doing good? Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. I I'd say I'd say pretty chill. Um I can't think of anything remarkable. That's okay. Um I need to talk about, so that's okay.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes no news is good news, and as long as everything is chill, kosher, we're all good. Yeah, yeah? Yeah, yeah. Alright, so Templeton! What does your pulse look like today? Okay. So that's always a good thing. Any day above ground is a good day?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anything new? Watch any new watch any new movies, playing new games? Discover anything new on your body?
SPEAKER_06I no, not really. I just discovered my friends don't like me very much, but that's all good.
SPEAKER_02Oh. Oh, is this is this where it's that's crazy. You gotta get some new friends, dog.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I would definitely exchange. Yeah, trade them in. Trade them in, get some new ones.
SPEAKER_02What's the mileage on those friends? Like if it's low mileage, you can get a good trade in value.
SPEAKER_00Friendvana.
SPEAKER_07I hear I hear they give you topana, I'm dead, bro.
SPEAKER_00That's wild. I hear they give you top dollar. They do not, they don't lowball you.
SPEAKER_06Do you guys want to be my friends?
SPEAKER_00That's just what I heard. I mean, are you trying to trade? Are you are you asking us as a trade-in? Like, do we want to be your friend as a trade-in? Absolutely.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah, brother.
SPEAKER_00Who are you trading in for us?
SPEAKER_02Visit car uh visit friendvana.com. Visit friendvana duck.
SPEAKER_04Could you imagine? What were you gonna say, Templeton?
SPEAKER_06I was gonna say I got a lumber that doesn't work. I can trade that in.
SPEAKER_00Oh, damn. Alright. Well, uh, just just go to friendvana.com and they'll send somebody over to your house. They will ask they'll drop us off and then. No, no, no, no, no. Don't send them to my house.
SPEAKER_06I don't want them to come here.
SPEAKER_00Why not? Leave me the fuck alone, that's why. Well, how else are they gonna get us to you?
SPEAKER_02Are you sure your friends are the problem?
SPEAKER_00It might be the lawnmower.
SPEAKER_07I can't. I can't.
SPEAKER_03Oh shit. We will appraise your lawnmower.
SPEAKER_06No, I'm just saying, like, the friends that I thought I had, like, all they do is make fun of me.
SPEAKER_00So oh, is that all they do? Yeah, all they do. All they do?
SPEAKER_06That's their own that's their only thing.
SPEAKER_00That sounds like an that sounds like an exaggeration. Sounds like sounds like a sounds sounds like inflated numbers. Sounds like um, hang on. We want to recount. Sounds like fake news.
SPEAKER_04I knew you were going there. That's why I said I need to recount.
SPEAKER_06There's like one, there's like one dude that doesn't make fun of me. Everybody else makes fun of me.
SPEAKER_00It just sounds wrong, is what it sounds like. Sounds incorrect to me. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And they turn out not to be.
SPEAKER_00Best of the world. Best friends of the world. Oh Lord. We're just we're a good guy, great guy, very powerful man. Anyway. Templeton, we're only giving you a hard time, but it'll be okay. It'll be alright. Uh actually, here.
SPEAKER_04You're welcome.
SPEAKER_00Uh, but everything good on the on the on the home front? Nothing, nothing crazy going on? No, I'm good. Alright, good to hear, good to hear. Uh, do they get your roof fixed? I did. Nice. So what was wrong with it?
SPEAKER_06Which is old, it needed to be replaced. That's all it was.
SPEAKER_00Oh, like like the shingles on it or yeah, the shingles.
SPEAKER_06I got you.
SPEAKER_00Now you had it now. That's right.
SPEAKER_06I'm a I'm a leaser, so I didn't have to pay for it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's all landlord. Yeah, that's all landlord means. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I wonder how much you spent, how much you spent.
SPEAKER_00What'd you say?
SPEAKER_02I said, why are we using slurs? What's a leaser?
SPEAKER_00Oh, hey, hey, hey, hey. That's actually crazy.
SPEAKER_06No, I just have to like it was really loud. It was really loud, and I didn't want to have to like deal with that during the oh yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_04They were working on your roof. That's right. I was trying.
SPEAKER_00What's up? What's up, my Lisa?
SPEAKER_04Okay, yeah, we're not doing that. We're not. We are moving on from that. No, don't repeat it. We're moving on. Okay.
SPEAKER_02You know what? I'm gonna roll this dice. I'm gonna roll it.
SPEAKER_04No, what? What's wrong? How am I doing? I'm doing fantastic. Okay, my pulse is average. Okay. I don't understand what happened. I just had daughter time with with me and my daughter. Uh the wifey went out of town for like a little uh birthday party for our friends in Louisville. Uh, she had an amazing time. They had an amazing time. Happy birthday to the female. It was the remember when we went to uh the uh the the drinking thing in Louisville, Jay? Yeah, the the drinking thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yes. Um is it pronounced Louisville or Louisville? Louisville. Get it right.
SPEAKER_04Louisville. Yes, Louisville, yeah.
SPEAKER_06No, no, no, it's Louisville.
SPEAKER_04It's pronounced Louisville. Louisville. And I know he knows that. He's just trolling us.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. I was asking for the internet because I know someone's gonna want to know.
SPEAKER_04Louisville.
SPEAKER_00Okay, it's Louisville.
SPEAKER_02It's but uh it's Mike.
SPEAKER_04But no, so so me and the daughter have.
SPEAKER_06You can't see, but my hand is up. You can't see, but my hand is up.
SPEAKER_04Okay, go ahead. Are you raising the roof?
SPEAKER_06Did did Gigi have a good birthday?
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, she uh yeah, I was I was leading to that. She turned one on Friday, uh, took the day off. Me and the wifey, we uh we took her to her her other grandma's house, and she got some presents there, had some cake and ice cream at like at like 10 in the morning. That's perfect. It was perfect, it was perfect.
SPEAKER_02That's the equivalent to drinking alcohol as an adult.
SPEAKER_04Yep, 100% it is.
SPEAKER_00No, cake has it has bread, it got milk, and it got eggs. That sounds like a balanced breakfast to me.
SPEAKER_02To me. You know what? He right, he right, he right. You're welcome, America.
SPEAKER_04So after we did that, we then took her to the aquarium where we thought she would enjoy herself because when we go to the zoo, she loves looking at the water animals. Well, we took her to the aquarium that has nothing but water animals, and she found it more fun to just stare at people.
SPEAKER_00People watching at the aquarium.
SPEAKER_04Yo, that's great. It's like she was in the aquarium. We could have saved a hundred dollars. She did she was she just wasn't in she wasn't impressed at all. Like we tried everything, nothing, nothing aquarium, Newport.
SPEAKER_02Newport. You hear that Newport Aquarium? Step your game up, very entertaining to the kids. Step your game up. Step your game up. So octopus or some shit.
SPEAKER_04They do have octopuses.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but but but can you interact with said octopuses? I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02Okay, maybe that's octopi.
SPEAKER_00It's octopuses. I'm sorry. Um, we that's a tricky word to say. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_06This is a family show, Jay.
SPEAKER_00Wait, wait, wait, wait. For the joke, because we waited way too long last show to even pull that out. It was probably the biggest mistake of our life.
SPEAKER_04Octopus. So after we did that, we went to a Mexican restaurant and they sang her happy birthday and she loved it. They gave her a little hat. We went to Mikos Mel.
SPEAKER_02No way. We went to Mikos Tila too?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, they actually came. They so they came by, they gave her like uh like ice cream, you know, ice cream and sundae or whatever. And then they uh people were like, hey, you guys want her shots? And we were like, Yes, please. Yeah, so we took the shots, and yeah, it was it was a good time. It was a good time. But yeah, so my daughter turned officially one, and now I have a one-year-old. I have a I have an uh toddler now? Toddler, yeah. Toddler.
SPEAKER_06Does she walk in?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, she walks. She walks. Nice, nice. She does everything. Yeah, she blows her nose, whistles.
SPEAKER_02Does she walk around doing the gritty now that she's Uno?
SPEAKER_04So when she's losing her balance, it looks like she's doing the gritty.
SPEAKER_00That's crazy. Leave baby Yeti alone. She's she's just trying to figure it out right now. But alright, it sounds like everybody's doing good. Um, I'm glad. Uh keep that up. Um, entertainment news. Who's
Need For Speed Gets Buried
SPEAKER_00ready for it? We got a lot to cut, we kind of have a lot to cover.
SPEAKER_08Rapid fire.
SPEAKER_00Rapid fire! Okay, so EA confirms that Need for Speed is officially dead and will not make another entry. Whoa. That's what I thought so too, honestly. I was waiting and I was hoping for a remake of Need for Speed Underground 1 and 2. That's what I was hoping for.
SPEAKER_02I was looking for Hot Pursuit. Yep. So question. Yes. And you don't need to have the answer. This is just like uh for everyone to like chew on. Um if if they're claiming that Need for Speed is dead, is that implying that they're not gonna do remasters or reboots? Or they're just not gonna like make new versions of the game?
SPEAKER_00I would like new storylines. I would venture to say they're probably just gonna leave Need for Speed dead in the water. Like the last one they the last one they did was Unbound, I think, and then that's it. And I don't think they're gonna retread. I think EA is probably gonna focus more on like, you know, more important games like Madden for whatever. That's what I think too. That's what I think.
SPEAKER_06But I haven't played Madden since 04.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like I mean Madden is a fun game, it's one of my favorites of like the sports world games. Um, but I also think that I'm only so interested in Madden because I'm interested in football.
SPEAKER_08Right.
SPEAKER_02Um, because I don't really play like MLB or I would play FIFA though. I'm like super interested in checking that game out.
SPEAKER_06I mean you can always check out I I get it, but the reason I stopped playing Madden is because um like O4 I'm pretty sure it was O4. O304. 2K beat the shit out of Madden that year. And it was a ch it's just a better game. Like I actually preferred 2K so much better, and Madden likes like and it was a lot a lot cheaper. It was like $20 as opposed to Madden. Yeah, and Madden is like, oh, you know what? We're gonna get exclusive rights.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's sounds like a very easy thing to do.
SPEAKER_06So 2K couldn't use any like branded or marketed stuff.
SPEAKER_00Which makes it tricky to make a game. Correct. Because you only have so much to to utilize, especially on especially with football, because it's like most of it is gonna be like sponsors and and big names that are gonna be on the game. Other than that, what what do you have? Like, you have the team and you have the players, and that's it. They're like you can't use anything else. I'm like, well that's that's a very bland kind of game.
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_06And uh 2K like four, I think it was four, so it's probably about two thousand and four. Was it just a better game, like overall?
SPEAKER_02I don't know, man. That was 22 years ago.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna say 2K four is is that's been a minute.
SPEAKER_04I I will say I will say back in the day I preferred 2K over Madden.
SPEAKER_06I get it, that was a long time ago, but that's my point. Like how you gonna get pissed because somebody makes a better game than you just make a better game.
SPEAKER_02I mean Yeah, that's a natural line of thinking, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I mean, I I would I would say I would try out a more updated 2K and see how you like it. That's what that's what I would do. Just to compare notes between you know modern Madden and modern 2K. That's what I would do.
SPEAKER_042K don't make games anymore, or they don't make a football game anymore, do they?
SPEAKER_00Maybe not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because because uh he Madden took all the NFL rights, so there's no NFL. If they make a football game, it's an off, it's an off they can make an XFL game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they could do that, or like a Blitz, they can come back and do Blitz. Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_06Blitz was the shit.
SPEAKER_00Blitz was Blitz. Blitz was fun. Blitz was double.
SPEAKER_04That was just an arcade fun game.
SPEAKER_00It was power bombing bitches and shit.
SPEAKER_02It was basically WWE in football.
SPEAKER_00In football form. Yeah. Because what did 2K do? Did they do NFL Game Day?
SPEAKER_06I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Who made NFL Game Day?
SPEAKER_02Well, the only two game the only 2K game I played was they did game day.
SPEAKER_04It was 2K 2K Game Day, if I'm not mistaken.
SPEAKER_02That's a mouthful. I understand why.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that yeah, I would have stopped making it too.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, so they um so so I can tell you right now, Madden holds the rights until the 2030 season of the NF for the NFL or for the rights of the NFL. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Gotcha.
SPEAKER_02Do you think we should swoop in and steal those rights? FMJ podcasts, right?
SPEAKER_00Damn, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_02Sorry, Madden.
SPEAKER_00No shit, no shit. Um so I guess I guess the last thing they did was it was 2020. They did uh uh an NFL partnership was a mobile card battler called NFL 2K Playmakers. Yeah, which struggled to find an ones. I have a hot take and was shut down in June 2025. What's your hot take?
SPEAKER_02I don't like playing mobile versions of games that I can play on console. Isn't that kind of goofy? Like that shit don't make no sense to me. I've tried playing like Call of Duty on my phone, yeah, clunky. Yeah, I've seen people play Madden on their phone, clunky. And it's because you're used to joysticks and buttons, and then like with a with a phone, it's all screen. Now, maybe if you had that fucking uh razor attachment that makes your phone turn into a controller, yeah, maybe I could enjoy it then, but without without a peripheral, I don't like it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I'm with you because that shit. I I never did understand trying to port a game from console to your phone. Like, there's mobile games for a reason. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm so dumb.
SPEAKER_00Maybe it's an addiction thing.
SPEAKER_04I mean it wasn't it wasn't 2K that I liked, it was game day, right?
SPEAKER_00That's why I said NFL game day. And I didn't know how name it was. Is that not 2K?
SPEAKER_04No, that's no, I was combining the two. It's it's you had you had you had NFL 2K, right, and then NFL was their own, then you had NFL Game Day, which was its own, and then you had Madden, which was its own.
SPEAKER_02Who made game?
SPEAKER_04989 Sports. That's who it was.
SPEAKER_02You said that like you knew who that was.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, I don't know who that was, but I do remember when I played on PlayStation, you know. Yeah, I was getting my game.
SPEAKER_04Game day was superior to Madden at that time.
SPEAKER_00I did enjoy I did I did enjoy game day back then, like when same here when uh PlayStation had because they were doing that every year too, and that was right because I think we did I think we had like ninety-nine and two thousand.
SPEAKER_04Yes, because nine ninety nine had oh ninety nine and two thousand both had uh your boy from uh real dance.
SPEAKER_00So there you go.
SPEAKER_02What was the first Madden you played?
SPEAKER_00Oh, the one on Sega. I think it might have been 95. Madden 95.
SPEAKER_02I think the first Madden I played might have been PS2. Oh really? Yeah. I just wasn't interested in those kind of games at that time. Like anything earlier than PS2. I think I think I was playing like games like Zelda that had like puzzly type shit.
SPEAKER_04It was, it was, and it wasn't, it wasn't considered uh it wasn't just Madden football. It was back then it was considered called John Madden football.
SPEAKER_00John Madden, yeah, John Madden football.
SPEAKER_04It didn't it didn't drop the John until 94.
SPEAKER_00It didn't drop the John until 94.
SPEAKER_02You know, they make pills for that. They do, they do. They do.
SPEAKER_00But it it is kind of unfortunate that EA is gonna not make um knee for speed anymore because I did kind of like the franchise.
SPEAKER_04Like it was just really to be honest with you, this is a chance for Midnight Club to capitalize if they wanted to.
SPEAKER_00If they wanted to. I don't I don't see it happening though.
SPEAKER_02Do you think there's a market for that type of race game, though? Because like we have things like Forza and GT that it's different.
SPEAKER_04It's different.
SPEAKER_02I know, I know. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_04Like if you go online, if you listen to what people want, people want underground, people want the customization to be able to just customize the F out of ay, they miss the heavy, they miss the customization heavy uh need for speed.
SPEAKER_02Like the Fast and the Furious.
SPEAKER_00Yes, they they do miss that because most wanted was like the last, like the very like on the PS3 most voted, no lie. Yeah, it was like the last good Need for Speed game that I would love a remake of that.
SPEAKER_02I know they're not going to now, obviously, but yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And really, it wasn't even a lot of there wasn't even a lot of customization in most wanted. There was like Carbon started going downhill. Yeah, Need for Speed uh Underground 2 had like the most customization out of the entirety of the Need for Speed Francis.
SPEAKER_02They literally lived to and the uh most wanted, I think.
SPEAKER_04It was just fun. It was just fun to be able to like, and I think what it is is I mean, for some people, we can't afford to go buy a fucking $15,000, $20,000 car and then throw another $15,000, $20,000 on it to make it look amazing. So you get the fantasy aspect of it. Yeah, it's the fantasy aspect. You get this game and you buy, you know, this car, then you're able to just customize it the way you like it, and you're like, oh, this is pretty dope. And I I think it I think there is a small need for it. Um Need for Speed. Um I think that's where the argument could be made. Would they be able to sell enough to consider it?
SPEAKER_00I think so. I think I think so. I I think they'd be surprised. I think a lot of it has to do because the newer need for speeds, uh like the like kind of like the last one we played together was um uh Need for Speed Heat, I think it was. Was like the last Need for Speed that we actually like we actually got online, we played together, we roamed around, all that kind of stuff. Right. And it was a lot of fun. It it's it's a it's a good game to it's a it's a fun arcade racer, right? Like that's that's what people racer, and I think a lot of people do appreciate that. The problem is, especially with Need for Speed, they have an issue with trying to fit some sort of story in there, and it's never really strong, like especially the campaign mode. It's not a super strong story, so I think if they just kind of focus more on maybe less on trying to make a really in-depth story and focus more on like customization, you can have a story in the background, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Like you're just making like a street racer story, right? Like literally like it used to be.
SPEAKER_00You're just you're coming up in the ranks, and the serious right, you're coming, you're coming up in the ranks, uh, amongst you know the black list of of racers, and you just kind of mosey around whatever city they decide to utilize, and and you know, you you up your street cred and all that kind of stuff, and if you want to introduce if you want to keep the cop aspect of it, you can. I don't I don't remember if that was a thing in Underground 2. I don't think it was. I don't think they started doing the cop thing until uh Most Wana. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, most wanna was kind of when they introduced it.
SPEAKER_02That was fun. I liked that because it it really amped up the street racing aspect. Right. Um, and another thing, like with the story mode, I was gonna add, they could just do it like they do did with Guitar Hero.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Where you're you're a rookie, a nobody, like you were saying, and then you you level up, but then like if they wanted to expand the game, because like that's pretty small, right? Yeah, like you you can get you can get pigeon held pretty quickly, but you you do it on like a neighborhood level to then like a circuit to like now you're like doing regions, yep. And like you could go, I don't know, once you get to a certain level, maybe you can go like challenge other areas or some shit. I don't know. I mean, I think that would be fun.
SPEAKER_00There's there's the sky's the limit when you when you kind of put it in the that kind of category, you know what I mean? So it's like right, right. I think there is a a market for that. I just don't think obviously EA's not gonna do it, so somebody else would.
SPEAKER_02Nah, we just need someone else to do it. They could change the name too. It doesn't have to be Need for Speed.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it could it could literally be anything. Like, like um, I think you brought up you got Forza, which I don't think Forza is you would have to make something that goes across all platforms, right? Like Need for Speed was not solely Xbox or Sony. You could that's fair that's make up Need for Speed anywhere. Forza's always gonna work.
SPEAKER_02Forza only exists because GT was exclusive, right? That's it. That's kind of the only reason.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because Forza is supposed to be the competitor for Grant Tourism.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, for GT yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's interesting to me though, because I like, yes, it is like a direct competitor, but it's still apples to oranges because it's not as realistic as GT is. Well, unless one of made one different.
SPEAKER_00If you if you ask those that are heavy in the simulation, um GT does a really awesome job blending um realism and arcade, like a good sim, like like it leans more sim, but it does have arcade aspects.
SPEAKER_02Is there a better sim out there? I've I'm so detached from the sim world.
SPEAKER_00People people usually say like F1 or uh Acetal Corso is the better. The problem is they charge you a fee, like a monthly fee, to even drive or utilize gate. Yeah, it's it's that's crazy. It's all it's on PC, but it is like Acetal Corso does have like the most realistic, it leans heavy into simulator as a if it has the support, I don't mind paying a subscription.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Because then that's something that you could just, hey, I want to I want to race this month. Right. And you just turn it on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So there there are there are deeper sims out there than Gran Turismo. Grand Turismo is just the more easily accessible, you know what I mean? Instead of paying a monthly fee, you just buy the game one time and you have you have a decent simulator. So I don't know. I s I love Gran Turismo because I grew up on Gran Turismo, played every single Gran Turismo out there, so I I just enjoyed I've always enjoyed Gran Turismo. So I will be a Gran Turismo boy until I die. Damn it. But um I do I do it did kind of make me sad hearing that Need for Speed is officially dead in the water, so uh pour one out for Need for Speed. So long so long, buddy.
Dragon Ball Lego Hype
SPEAKER_00Um Dragon Ball will have a new Lego set coming November 1st. They yep, November 1st of this year. They uh I think it's like 1700 pieces or something like that. It's supposed to be the Shenron diorama. Uh you'll have a giant Shenron dragon, and I think it's supposed to come with a Goku.
SPEAKER_02So that was real. I saw that on Instagram and was I'm always apprehensive when I see something posted by like Lego or something.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02Because it wasn't posted by Lego, and I was like, is that real?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's it's it was it was confirmed uh from Lego that it and I think it's supposed to be $199 or some shit like that. That's not terrible. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh Yeti, I already got that, so be patient.
SPEAKER_04Okay. I just want to I just want to make sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, be patient. Um, but yeah, I I'm excited because the last big uh Lego one I bought was the Batman Tumblr from The Dark Knight, and that was about 2,000 something pieces, and it's dope. I remember when you bought that. Yes, Chris.
SPEAKER_02You know what would be kind of a fun extra lives episode?
SPEAKER_00What's that?
SPEAKER_02Put putting that putting that together.
SPEAKER_00Ooh, the the Dragon Ball diorama. We need it we need to get back into Extra Lives, y'all. We need to we need to bring that back. We need to we need to revive that so we can go. That would be a fun extra lives.
SPEAKER_02Like if we did it live, I mean yeah, piecing it together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that'd be a lot of fun. So, but that's that's something to look forward to uh this November. It's supposed to be like $199. So if you're a big Dragon Ball fan and a big Lego collector, you got that. Um and then of course we got big news from the San Diego Comic-Con.
Marvel Announcements And Casting
SPEAKER_00Um we Ryan Kugler introduced the new Black Panther, David Johnson. If you don't know who he is, he played Andy in Alien Romulus, who was the uh Synth, and Peter McVries in The Long Walk, which both of those movies are really good. Uh he will play T'Challa the Second, and Black Panther 3 is slated to release December 15th of 2028, and it will be directed by Ryan Kugler, so got that to look forward to.
SPEAKER_02Um Ryan, I'm curious how the story's gonna go.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04No, it's it's it's the sun.
SPEAKER_00So, like the sun that we met was introduced in Black Panther 2 at the end of Black Panther 3.
SPEAKER_04At the end, yeah. It's gonna be it's gonna focus on him being an adult. Yep. The question that people are gonna have is the time gap.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, it's not until 2028, so you got two years, and a lot's gonna happen, I'm sure, in between all of that.
SPEAKER_04Right, but um, I mean, just just how it goes from a kid to adult.
SPEAKER_00Again, I'm gonna go.
SPEAKER_07I don't give a shit.
SPEAKER_00This is this is where I this is where my mind goes, because again, it's 2028. It's we're not over 2026 yet. There's still a whole year of Marvel stuff that's coming. I'm sure they can fill that time up, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_02Of what also it doesn't have to be set in 2028. Correct, people need to not get so hung up on. Yeah, just because it coming out in 2028 doesn't mean that the movie's set in 2028, it can be set in the future, exactly.
SPEAKER_00Right. No, I I get that. Yeah, I think people are causing a stink for no reason. That's that's that's all it comes to.
SPEAKER_02Because they need to go touch some grass. You heard me, nerds.
SPEAKER_00I'm looking right at you.
SPEAKER_02Glass hide, glass hide, glass hide.
SPEAKER_04I was playing Fortnite, and there's an achievement, like there's a quest that goes on. No, it's funny, it goes hand in hand with what you just said, Grizz. I can't say Fortnite. Yeah, though there's a there's a there's a there's a quest going on, and it literally says touch grass. And as long as you run around on grass, you get a meter for everything, and you go up to 60 meters and you get like 10,000 XP. I giggled, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So okay. Um, furthermore, Ryan Gosling joins the MCU as the new ghost writer that will be directed by Sean Levy and set to release in 2028. So, we have that to look forward to. Ryan Gosling Ghost Enough? I think so.
SPEAKER_04Uh to be honest with you, bro. Ryan Gosling is on fire right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, especially after uh Project Hail Mary.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Such a good movie.
SPEAKER_02Did you see? Oh fuck, there's this movie. I'll find it later because I don't want to like get my phone out and look it up. Um there's a movie where he plays like a more serious role where he's like this agent that like is I think it's called Grey Man, maybe. Yes, yes, Grey Man, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. So I had this thought a few seconds ago. Actually, I saw um on my way down to my studio, I uh saw online the Marvel post of uh confirming him as ghostwriter, and I thought interesting choice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then just now I remembered he did that movie, and I'm like, he you know, I might be because lately he's been doing these. I mean, Project Hail Mary, if anyone hasn't seen it, phenomenal film. Um it's a it's a serious movie, but it has like comedic levity and it's like right in his wheelhouse of like bridging like drama and comedy. Um, but he can do serious roles too. He's he's a pretty pretty good, like he's got broad range. Fantastic range. Yeah, he's got a lot of things.
SPEAKER_04It's interesting though, because he's been around for a little bit. Yeah, not a long time, but he's been around for a little bit. But it's just literally he took some I I feel like he took some time off and he came back with that Barbie. And since he came back with Barbie, he's just everything he's touched is just been on fire. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Since his baseball season, he's just hitting home runs. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, honestly, he has been. And I mean, um it's kind of funny though, seeing uh people do AI covers of the notebook, and it's old girl kissing ghostwriter. So, yeah, the the games have begun. Um, and of course, lastly, Ryan Reynolds crashed the Doomsday cast in the gray Deadpool suit. And he came out and he asked Paul Rudd, he said, Where is Thor? And why was he crying?
SPEAKER_02So I'm looking forward to December 18th.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02Or the 8th. I think it's I think it's 18th.
SPEAKER_00Might
Why Trailers Spoil Everything
SPEAKER_00be.
SPEAKER_02I am purposefully and with as much intention avoiding every same season trailer and teaser for Doomsday. Actually, furthermore, I'm avoiding all Marvel trailers just because like I'm a little over it. Like, like, since endgame, I think they've been going a little overboard with their trailers because they're trying to be clever, they're trying to like show you something that's not actually in it, or they'll show you a scene, but then they CGI stuff out or change it to throw everyone off. And it's like, I got an idea, buddy. Yeah, how about we just don't fucking show shit?
SPEAKER_01There you go. Right?
SPEAKER_02Like, let's just do a 90-second trailer, uh teaser. We'll all fucking go see the movie. I promise you, you don't need to show me the fucking hook. Yeah, right. Okay, I'm on a little bit of a rant, so but just bear with me. I'm almost through it. One of my biggest pet peeves in the Hollywood industry is when they fucking show you the twist, all of it. All of it. Yeah, god fucking damn it, all of it. Like, why do I go? Like, why would I go see it now? Huh? Yeah, there was I just I get so pissed off.
SPEAKER_04There was a movie, there was a scary movie, and they showed a jump scare in the trailer. And it's I think it was I want to say it was the conjuring, bro.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it probably was. Dude, there's a new one that just did it. The other mommy. Have you seen the trailer?
SPEAKER_01Yep. Yeah, they do. They do.
SPEAKER_00So I'm sorry, I'm like hyped. No, you're all good because that it that is one thing, and honestly, we should make that our next episode about movie trailers and why they show so much. Like, sometimes less is more because it makes you want to come makes you want to go watch the movie, right? Like, like to your point, Grizz, especially with Marvel, just a teaser, a teaser would suffice so much.
SPEAKER_04But they've already they've already established themselves as heavy hitters, right? So, like, if they were to like here's the thing, don't even have to show anything. If they were just hear me out, if they were just to put the title of the of the movie, let's use blade, the one that just got cancelled. It's finally been canceled. Heartbreaking. Let's say let's say we just put Blade 2029 in big red, bold, shadowed letters on the screen, left it up there for 10 seconds. Do you think people would go watch that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and and and honestly, I would even go further to that and maybe just like do a uh like a silhouette possibly, or maybe a dimly lit uh look at your character, at your titular character. So like show play, so like show blade in the background behind the behind the movie title, doing his you know, blade pose, but you have your you have your blade, right? You know who's playing him, you can see what he looks like, and people can get a feel for oh my god, I can't fucking maybe a a line, like a dialogue line, yeah, you know something like a quotable moment, yep, yeah, and that's all you need. That's it.
SPEAKER_04People would go fucking nuts for that, but yeah, to be honest with you, and to be honest with you, that's not enough of the story.
SPEAKER_03I think if you didn't have trailers, I think it would build up more talk for sure, for sure.
SPEAKER_04People be like, yo, how come they haven't produced a trailer? Like people talk about the Spider-Man coming out, and they're like, it was like a month before it came out, maybe a month and a half before it came out, when we first when we finally got the first trailer for Spider-Man, right?
SPEAKER_03And everyone was like, dude, where's the trailer? Where's the trailer? And you know they're gonna go see it. You know damn well.
SPEAKER_00Yeti, can you do me a favor?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, what's up?
SPEAKER_00Back up from your mic, just a smidge, just a smidge, just a smidge. Now go ahead, talk. Now talk. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can get a little closer. Yeah, you're you you're just you're just right up on your mic and it and it's getting a little distorted. Yeah, so you just gotta remember, you have to. I was also really excited to have a better microphone, so you don't have to be you can just yeah, you can be just yeah, new new mic oozes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because you do get you're loud, you're loud naturally, so more than likely you'll have to adjust some of the levels because it's not the snowball, so you won't have to be He told you to shut up, dude.
SPEAKER_02No, I didn't say shut up. Actually, could you like maybe back up a little bit?
SPEAKER_00No, I'm just saying because I I'm I am naturally loud, so I I have to really not I think we all are. That's why we're gravitating. I'll use my indoor voice. I'll use my inside.
SPEAKER_04I feel like I was beaten.
SPEAKER_00No, not at all. Because you sound you sound great, you sound fantastic. It's just when you get up on the microphone and you get really super loud, it just it cut it it distorts your audio quite a bit. So I just want to Okay. Well, I'm sorry. I don't know. I lost my train of thought, so let's move on. What's next? Anyway, we're we're gonna move on from teaser trailers and all that kind of stuff. And like I said, I think that should be really our next episode. We should talk about uh I agree. Let's do it about I thought we were gonna talk about Odyssey. I mean, we could do that too. We'll just we'll just pin it. Yeah, we could we could do both. We could talk about why they showed so much of the Odyssey in the trailers.
SPEAKER_04They actually didn't show much in that, to be honest with you. Honestly, they didn't. They they really didn't.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like Christopher Nolan knows what's up. It's smart. That's true.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's true. They just showed him fighting some people and that was it. Yeah, yeah. And he didn't even show that really.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait to talk about that movie. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Alright, all right, let's put a pin in it. Anyway, Yeti's got either something to tell us or or or Reddit Roulette. Which one is it?
SPEAKER_03Which one which one do you want?
SPEAKER_00I don't care. You pick. Oh, dealer's choice, baby.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so this one.
The Strip Club Daycare Debate
SPEAKER_04So this is a conversation that me and my wife had on Friday.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_04And it posed the question should strip clubs have daycare slash a place to babysit kids.
SPEAKER_00Stop it. Okay, so like I see I see where you're going. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04Like, because time up. Let me explain how we got there. Okay. So we were leaving our festivities and we were passing by what used to be called the playpen. Okay. And we were leaving the strip club. They did a remodel and they got a they they went they rebranded, and then they're called the Lux. Okay. And I looked at like D Lux? No, the Lux. Just called the Lux.
SPEAKER_07Like the Lux hotel. A missed opportunity.
SPEAKER_04Right? Oh, that is a missed opportunity. D Lux Lux. Anywho, so we were driving, we were driving by. I was like, hey, you want to go to the strip club? And she's like, No, we got the baby. I said, Yeah. I was like, it's fr. And then she goes, it's probably frowned upon.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you mean for fucking patrons? Are you fucking kidding?
SPEAKER_04So I was like, then after that, I was like, they should have a place for daycare. No.
SPEAKER_03Emily said they had little tassels on their nipples if you didn't get that's crazy work.
SPEAKER_02So I'm glad that you got you. I'm glad. That was teaching. Because my question was going to be what kind of daycare is this? Like, you're going to walk in and like the daycare is also strippers?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I don't know the details of it.
SPEAKER_00They're just bouncing their ass. They're like, yeah, drop your kid off over there. Don't forget to tip.
SPEAKER_02Would the baby be having warm up?
SPEAKER_00And when exactly do you put your baby down for nap time?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just tap at the top right there.
SPEAKER_00No, for patrons, it's such a bad idea because that's bad parenting. Watch my kid as I go watch women shake their ass. What? That doesn't even make any sense, brother.
SPEAKER_02How was your weekend with your father?
SPEAKER_00Right. We don't talk about that. Dad said, don't mention that. Oh shit. That's my I knew you guys would love that question. No, that's a terrible question. So anyway, anyway. Yeah, we know, buddy. We know. She let us know. She's all working on my birthday party. I know. Hi, buddy.
unknownWe know.
SPEAKER_00Oh, careful now. It's all good. It's all good. So, anyways, um, Reddit roulette.
Reddit Roulette On Babysitting Money
SPEAKER_00Do we have a red roulette?
SPEAKER_04We always have a red roulette. Are you guys ready for it?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Are you ready for it?
SPEAKER_04I'm always ready for it. I don't think you are. Alright.
SPEAKER_00I don't think you're ready for it. Number one through five. Um, Grizz, one through five.
SPEAKER_04I actually have have the little guy pick.
SPEAKER_00Okay, one through five. Yeah, birthday boy. Pick a number one through five. He said five.
SPEAKER_04Okay, five it is.
SPEAKER_02One, two, three, four, and five. Is that the amount of licks to the center of the tootsie pop?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. If you ask Mr. Owl, you're two over.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. What are the chances of this? You ready?
SPEAKER_00Oh, i am I the a-hole for for dropping my kid off at the I will I will walk off the show right now.
SPEAKER_07I will leave.
SPEAKER_03Am I the asshole for expecting money for babysitting? Oh no.
SPEAKER_00That's crazy. Sir.
SPEAKER_02That was close. Oh, it was so close.
SPEAKER_00I thought I thought for sure that's what was gonna happen. I thought I thought for sure we were going that route.
SPEAKER_02Am I thankful for dropping my biggest?
SPEAKER_00Dropping my baby off and going to the strip club. Yes, immediately.
SPEAKER_04My parents are both remarried and have little kids. My dad's daughter's one, and she's the cutest kid ever. I just love her so much, and and I volunteered to babysit her. I don't see it as a job. I see it as spending time with my sister. My mom's kids are four and nine. They are whiny and picky, and I babysit both of them for the right price. Now my mom found out I don't charge my dad and called me an asshole. She reminded me that I that she is financially struggling, and I told her that is not my problem.
SPEAKER_00Oh, is is that it? Is that it? That's it. That's short. That's very short.
SPEAKER_04So basically, so she she babysits one for free. And then ones the baby's kid, she charges.
SPEAKER_00Okay. She she upcharges for the Hellions. Is that what is that what is that what we're getting? Is that what we're getting? And what and what was the question? Is she the a-hole for what?
SPEAKER_04Am I the asshole for expecting money for babysitting?
SPEAKER_00I mean, no.
SPEAKER_03If that's if you question it, pick and choose what you what you charge for. That's where the asshole comes in.
SPEAKER_00That's where the asshole comes in. You're so right. But if they're over here, like, I'm gonna charge them less because their kids are easier to handle than these people, like everyone's saying she's not the asshole.
SPEAKER_04Are we reading it wrong?
SPEAKER_00I mean, that that was the question that was asked, correct?
SPEAKER_04It says, Am I the asshole for expecting money for babysitting? Right. Parents are married.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04So my dad's daughter's one, and I don't see it as a job. I see it as spending time with my sister. My mom's kids are four and nine. See, this is where this is where the problem lies, right? When she says they're whiny and picky, and I babysit them for the four and nine. Would you say?
SPEAKER_02Am I missing something? So the parents are divorced, no? Yes. And then they have new children by new people. Yes. So these are step siblings? So I see again, not enough information. This person is from this situation.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, because that because so it sounds it doesn't, and it doesn't say how old she is.
SPEAKER_02Old enough to have a Reddit account.
SPEAKER_04Obviously. Facts.
SPEAKER_02Obviously.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't I'm not sure how I feel about the one because, like I said, where I have a problem is they are whining and picking, and I babysit them for the right price. So because one doesn't cry or whine, you'll do it for free. But because other ones are worse to watch, you're gonna charge them.
SPEAKER_00Right, and that's the part where you're the asshole. If you're just if you're just if you're if your question solely is, am I the asshole for charging to watch kids? No, because you're offering a service. But if you were to word that, am I the asshole for charging one person and not the other based on you know behavior of children? Now we're having a totally different conversation because you know you're picking and choosing, you're you're kind of um, what do they call it, price gouging. Yeah, price gouging, um um watching kids because, well, these ones give me a harder time than these ones, so I'll charge them more. No, you shouldn't do that. You shouldn't do that. Right. Should be a flat fee.
SPEAKER_04A hundred percent.
SPEAKER_00He knows, because he's a kid.
SPEAKER_04A hundred percent. Yeah, I I think I'm gonna be eight tomorrow. I'm I'm torn right now. I'm I'm I'm down the road because, like I said, one hand, you're not the asshole, because I mean you're just you're babysitting your your family's kids. Like I get it. Like, but then when you start charging one or the other, like I feel like you become an asshole when you start doing something like that. Correct. When you start with the channel, and if that's the case, if that's the case, charge your dad five bucks. At least you're charging him something.
SPEAKER_00Right, right, right, right, right.
SPEAKER_04Don't don't be like then you can't say I'm not charging one or the other, right? And no one has to know if anyone shares how much they're paying for you to watch, that's on them. Like that becomes yeah, correct. Like yeah, yeah. But as far yeah, because I because then you're playing favoritism.
SPEAKER_00That's that's that's exactly what that is. You're you're playing favorites and you're price gouging for the kids that you're watching. So for the question that's being asked, no, not the asshole.
SPEAKER_04But yes, yeah, I agree to that.
SPEAKER_00You are an asshole for charging one kids, right? You yeah, yeah, true on that. Could just say, I'm not watching children. No, I will not. Because here's the thing if you're not gonna do it for one, you shouldn't do it for the other.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and if your only motive is the like the motive isn't to make money, otherwise they would charge the dad too. Yeah, so it can't be. So then I have to ask myself extra cash.
SPEAKER_04I wonder if she's upset with the mom at all.
SPEAKER_00I mean, that's that'd be that'd be something to that's what that reads. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was gonna say it sounds like they do they are beefing, but we don't know. That's something that she didn't share.
SPEAKER_04Or I'm really going really far left on this, but let the mom cheated on the husband is the way to pay her back.
SPEAKER_00That's crazy. It's actually crazy diabolic.
SPEAKER_02So it would explain a four and nine-year-old though, and the other one only has a one-year-old.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and the plot thickens. Is there is there an update at all, or no?
SPEAKER_04I mean, I scrolled, there's 34 messages, and I can't okay. OP. How many? 34? There's 34 uh comments. Sorry, sorry, sorry. And I was trying to find OP and I found OP. But she's in the same. In fact, you should sorry.
SPEAKER_02Um, I'm gonna say not necessarily the asshole.
SPEAKER_04Ah, see, hold on, hold on, right? So so someone said not the asshole. This is me reading into stuff, and I'm hold on, and it makes sense once I read it. And not the asshole. In fact, you should charge. This is someone random, you should charge a bit for the one-year-old as well. Value your value your time charging for one, but not the other shows favoritism, and then she responded, but she's my baby, and they don't ask often. I don't know. After everything my dad has done for me, it just feels wrong.
SPEAKER_02What do you mean by she's my baby?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, what does that mean?
SPEAKER_02I'm asking more questions.
SPEAKER_04Baby sister, probably.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. She's my baby sister. Where was No, I'm not gonna ask that question. We're not gonna go there.
SPEAKER_04Stop what I'm focusing on though is after everything my dad has done for me, it just feels wrong. See, so like it sounds like she is playing favoritism. Yeah, it does, yeah. Yeah. See, and it says the four-year-old is always annoying.
SPEAKER_02So here's here's my here's my thought. This person Okay, I feel this way about everyone that posts on Reddit, but for this specific one, this person just wants attention.
SPEAKER_00I mean yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. They just want they just they just want the they just want people to they just want people to know what they got going on. They're not exclusively an asshole, but their their choice on treating one parent different than the other for whatever reason is not the type of behavior that I would want to be known for. Right. Right. Uh so I think not necessarily asshole, but asshole-like tendencies.
SPEAKER_00For sure. So maybe like a gooch behavior.
SPEAKER_04Gooch gooch behavior. So she you're a tank. So some someone asked, Do you live with either parent? That matters somehow, and she said 50-50 custody.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so she ain't even 18.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, she's not. Damn. So maybe maybe 15, 16, something like that. Probably.
SPEAKER_02Probably not even an asshole, just growing up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But still, like I don't know. I don't know. If you if you're not gonna charge one, don't charge the other. That's that's what I'm gonna say. That's that's that's just that's that's bad for business.
SPEAKER_04I went to oh wow, okay, the plot thickens. See? So I clicked, so I went, I clicked the OP's name. Person's been banned.
SPEAKER_02The poster?
SPEAKER_00Probably because they're not 18.
SPEAKER_04Someone, one of the parents, the the mom or the dad caught wind of it and said, no, canceling that shit right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, probably. That's crazy. Yeah, probably probably because they're not 18.
SPEAKER_02Do you have to be 18 to have a Reddit account?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I would I would say oh. I would say no.
SPEAKER_02I imagine everything is like 13 plus, but I think you should be 18 to be 13.
SPEAKER_04I think as well, I think I think if the parent makes it for you, you're fine. Yeah, kind of like you're not fine.
SPEAKER_00Kind of like how kind of like how Facebook has been. Yeah. So I don't know. I don't know. No, that that's yeah, I'm gonna say I'm gonna say with the information I have. Based on just the question. Yeah, just the question being as not the asshole. Yeah. But if we dive deeper into it, you're definitely an asshole for charging one and not the other.
SPEAKER_04Yep.
SPEAKER_00Because it just shows favoritism as someone else stated as well. Yeah. You're charging one and not the other. That's not that's not fair. So I said bad for business, do better. That's all I'm gonna say. So collectively, I think we say not the asshole. Um, but before we carry on to our main topic for the day, talk about whoreves or something. I have a question to ask y'all. I have a question. I do, I have a question to ask y'all. Have you ever wanted to go to a strip club? And you're like, you know, asshole. Straight up. I don't know exactly where I can drop my kid off because they're right in my backseat, and I know I can't walk into this place with a toddler. That's just that's that just looks bad on my end. It's frowned upon. It is frowned upon. So you have to really rub some brain cells together to figure out where to drop them off at, and then you just suddenly think of this asinine idea of hey, stripper daycare.
Sponsor Break With Magic Mind
SPEAKER_00Magic mind will help clear your thoughts. Because what were you thinking when you thought stripper daycare? So the little new tropics in this wonderful mental performance shot can probably clear up that brain fog that you're having and really get your uh get you more sharper focused on the real task at hand, and that is celebrating your baby's birthday, your goofball. So if you would like to try your uh magic mind and have enough energy for the day and sharp focus, uh just add it to your coffee. You don't have to change anything, and it will it uh the LTN in it will help absorb all that caffeine and keep that energy all day long so you can have a discussion with your significant other about where are we gonna drop our kid off if we want to go to a strip club one day. Who knows? Maybe one day Yeti's idea will come to fruition, and it'll be like, yeah, we have strippers here and the daycare right across the street. See that? That's uh this is this is deja vu, that's deja vu toddlers where we watch your children.
SPEAKER_02What would you call a fully clothed stripper? Like what would be the Uno reversal stripper?
SPEAKER_00A nanny. That's exactly I I don't know. I don't know a clo uh a non-stripped, not stripped, I don't know. But anyway, if you would like to try Magic Mind for yourself and maybe come up with better ideas than Deja Vu toddler, stop by www.magicmind.com and use our checkout code at uh or our discount code at checkout. Wow, that's weird. Uh FMJ Pod 20, and you can get 48% off uh your first time subscription or 20% off one-time purchases. I'm gonna take a shot because apparently I need it. And try it for yourself and see if you come to the same conclusion that Yeti had. And I mean, how do you feel? Do you want daycare, like stripper daycare? Like, what is that? See, I thought for sure Yeti was talking about like, you know, for the workers, strippers sometimes have babies, right? And they're like, hey, I still have to make a living. You know what I'm saying? I still have to make a living, so I need a daycare close by. Why not have one right next door?
SPEAKER_02Or in this case, a nightcare.
SPEAKER_00A nightcare. Deja vu toddler coming to you. Oh my god. Coming to your city very soon. Anyway, that's all bullshit made up trash.
SPEAKER_02How early? I'm not a I'm not an experienced strip club kind of super. How early do they open? Um, they open early. Some some it also depends on locations.
SPEAKER_03Some open at like 12, serve lunch. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So so like there is a potential for like somebody needing to have take care of work.
SPEAKER_04Yes, yes. Well, okay. Let's take out strippers for a second. There are third. No. There are you're a taken man.
SPEAKER_02You can't take a stripper out. You can look, but you can't order.
SPEAKER_00Listen, if Mrs. Yeti allows it.
SPEAKER_04No, there are there are third third shift workers, nurses, doctors.
SPEAKER_00Uh brother, that's not the same as okay. What's our topic for the day? What's our topic for the day? Stop it. Both people need daycare adjusting.
SPEAKER_03Cut it out. Hard work.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Daycare.
SPEAKER_00Yes, that's what I'm trying to say.
SPEAKER_07Both are not closed. It doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_00Out. Cut it out. Okay? All right. All right. Cause it totally, yeah, cut it out. Like, what are we doing? What is our topic for the day? Strippers. Stripper daycare.
SPEAKER_02I'm dead, dude.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he's like, fuck you guys. Yeah, fuck you guys.
SPEAKER_00Fuck you guys. I'm going home. I'm going home. Anyway, our topic for the day, I believe, is horror d'oeuvres.
Horror Movies Outshining Blockbusters
SPEAKER_00No, no, no. Horror. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Horror movies. That's right. Horror movies with the derves that are really outshining summer blockbusters, especially this year. Like, say for maybe like a couple of them, because I mean, we all know the elephant in the room, the Odyssey, is like killing it right now. But the idea for today's show came from uh we had a few horror movies come out very recently and and made a lot of waves uh as far as Hollywood is is concerned. Obsession being one of them, uh one of the biggest talks around town, and Backrooms, which were both very, very successful. Now there were other horror movies of that genre that came out, such as Hokum and The Passenger, and just to name a few, that came out recently and and they did okay. But for the most part, Obsession and Backrooms has really done amazing. And then, of course, we have the Evil Dead franchise, which has been doing really, really well. Uh Lee Cronin's the Mummy Um was I think it was that came out last year, possibly, but we just I just wanted to bring bring up the mummy because it is it was stated by Lee Cronin that the the mummy that his version of the mummy ties into the Evil Dead universe. So with Evil Dead Burn coming out and everything like that, obviously one we still have to watch, but a lot of success has been happening, and Supergirl kind of struggled.
Supergirl Takes And Superhero Fatigue
SPEAKER_00We had uh Moana just why to be honest. I don't either. Moana came out the live version, I have not yet.
SPEAKER_04That's the reason why, right there. Yeah, nobody says.
SPEAKER_02I saw it last week. I saw it last week, Supergirl, and I don't understand the hate, honestly. I I genuinely don't. I I I mean, like it was if I may take a moment to talk about it. Um it felt like okay, so we had the Superman movie, everyone loves Superman, right? Uh unless you wore a red hat, but uh most people don't count. Um Superman was solid film, yeah, and it ties in Cara, right? And then and then they announced like we're gonna get a super supergirl movie, and I guess maybe if I had to speculate, people were expecting it to be a similar adventure just through her lens, right? And I would argue it kind of was, it was just through her lens, and her lens is very different than it's darker than what Clark had, right? Right, and and like truly I thought it was a pretty well done story, right? Like it it was it was real, right? Like um since you guys haven't seen it, I won't go into too much of the plot, but like her journey, I I can genuinely relate to in some degree. Um, like you've if you've seen the trailers, you see that she is like off-world, like visiting other planets, and like you know, I think in one of the trailers it does show her like like at a club, maybe. Yeah, yeah, it does. She's like partying or whatnot. Yeah. And like it's just very relatable content, I believe. And then it's it it it's kind of one of those things where there's a character going through some shit. And then the universe or God or life, whatever, whatever you want to deem the orchestrator of of the things outside of your own control presents an opportunity for the main character to make a choice. And how how is that main character going to solve this problem?
SPEAKER_07Right.
SPEAKER_02And that's what this story was. Like it was, I don't think it was bad. I was it a 10 out of 10? No. Not at all. I would say I I would genuinely and like out of 10, this might sound harsher than it is, because I'm saying I enjoyed the movie. But I would I would probably give it like a seven, maybe a 6.5, which sounds low. No, it's not because it's five average.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's a five average.
SPEAKER_04So it's a slightly better than average.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's slightly better than average. Um, but like Superman, I think, I think Superman was like a if I remember, ooh, I would like to listen back because I think we talked about Superman.
SPEAKER_00We did.
SPEAKER_02And I might have I might have said Superman was like a nine out of ten, or maybe an eight point five. And I'd stand on that. I'd say Superman was probably eight, eight point five. I I think. And and and um yeah, I'd comfortably say six point five, maybe six point eight. Let's cut let's split the hairs, six point eight.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um because I I really did enjoy a lot of it. I do think some of the scenes could have been like maybe shot better, maybe they hurried with some of the CGI. The problem with some of these super film superhero films is they're a little too heavy on CGI. Yeah, yeah. Um but yeah, I think overall it was pretty decent.
SPEAKER_04I know we're not here to talk about Supergirl, but so I was I was I was throwing around in my head. I mean, it kind of correlates though, is because like the question you have to ask yourself are the consumers, are they tired of just a smidge? Just a smidge. It's just it's just where the mic is at. I got see that maybe this will help. So what I was what I think is are consumers tired of superhero movies? Are we ti are are we tired of probably yeah?
SPEAKER_00I'm sure there's a fatigue there.
SPEAKER_04Personally, I am there might be a fatigue personally. Um and it is it's a breath of fresh air to kind of watch something that's not superhero related. And I say that, but don't get me, don't get it wrong. Well, I'd be one of the first ones to go watch a superhero movie. Yeah, I probably will. But when you have an option
Obsession Box Office And Low Budgets
SPEAKER_04to see a horror movie, as here recently, I've watched a couple. I've watched Obsession and I watched The Mummy. To be honest with you, I'm kind of upset I didn't go to the movie theater to watch the mummy because the mummy was surprisingly very good.
SPEAKER_02Um, I still need to watch it. It was I did go to the theater last night and watch the uh watch obsession. What'd you think of that? I I enjoyed it. Uh well how let me I there was parts of the movie I did not enjoy, but it wasn't because the movie wasn't good. Okay, it was it was actually the movie was very well done because it made me feel what I think you're supposed to feel. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which I I felt gross, like I felt uncomfortable. Um there was moments of the movie where I was just like not sure where it was going and how it was gonna play out, how they were planning on wrapping up, like because you know, like homie opens a fucking Pandora's box.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02Right. And I'm like, how are we gonna close this box?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And we've all seen this
Obsession Plot And Moral Line
SPEAKER_02movie, right? Like I talked about it. Yes, yes. You are free to talk about it. Okay, okay, okay. I didn't know. I just don't want to dance around things if I have to. Okay. Yeah, you're free to talk about it. Um he he makes a wish for this girl to fall in love with him.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_02And then he calls the hotline on the back of the box.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, How do I undo this? How do I alter it? And the guy's like, Well, I mean, I guess you could off yourself. Yeah, you got off yourself. Right. Uh that that that I mean, like the the wish the wish will expire if you if you are gone.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02And and at that point, I was like, oh, okay, this kid, he's gonna know what to do. He you you got the tools, you know what you gotta do now. It's it's a heavy fucking toll.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02It's the fucking price you have to pay, dog. Right? And and then I'm like waiting the whole movie for him to do it. And each moment he never does it. Well, I think that's the psychological part of the we were trying to get it.
SPEAKER_00So the idea, which you know, there there's been a huge debate on if Bear, our our you know, guy that we're following, one of the characters in the movie. That there's a huge debate on if Bear is was was the villain or not, because they're like they're trying to figure out who exactly was the villain of the movie, right?
SPEAKER_02Because I have I have thoughts on this.
SPEAKER_00So, so I mean I do too, because everybody was like, Well, uh you know, it's pretty obvious that Bear's the villain, and I'm like, I don't know, I think there's some nuance there, and I only say that because in order for Bear to be the villain from the jump, he would have to know that the wish he made on the One Wish Willow was going to work. Ultimately, he did he did not, right? So in his mind, it's a novelty item. He's in the beginning, he's supposed to be coming off as this hopeless romantic that is really in in all ways, shape, and form, is obsessed with Nikki. Like in the beginning, you see, like when he's Googling and shit like that, you see on like his search bar how to woo a girl, how to know if you've been friend zoned, and all that.
SPEAKER_02That's not being obsessed, so that's just being no well, it's a little incel-ish.
SPEAKER_00A little bit, but he's just he's like in a way it's insecure at the very least.
SPEAKER_02Correct, right? Like, yeah, not that I will be. But he's preferred.
SPEAKER_00Well, right, but he's also slightly obsessed with Nikki because he like just does not his sole focus is Nikki the whole entire movie, and from you know, like from in the past, because you know, they him and his boy talk about it. You had your opportunity to, you know, you had an opportunity to shoot your shot, and now he's like, Well, maybe I can shoot my shot at this point in time, and he keeps trying to do that in the movie when they're all together, right? And he just never does it. So that's where they kind of solidify that Bear is a coward, like he's scared to do things, right? Because he he he just e whether it be insecurity or whatever the fact, whatever, whatever the case may be. So he's too afraid to say it. And Nikki literally kicks the door wide open and says, Do you like me, Bear? And he doesn't say anything. And she said, If you if you do, now's the time to say it. And he's too afraid to say anything. Now, do I think that's villainish? I don't think so. I think that's somebody that has a hard time communicating, you know what I'm saying? And then we're just scared of rejection. I mean, you can break that down. You can break that down in so many different ways. I mean, when you first started when you first started talking to women and you were asking women out how many did you not ask out because you were saying that and and especially now typical yeah, especially now when you when you see when you see videos on TikTok where it's like you know, they're like the worst thing she could say is no, and then it cuts to a scene of this girl just like cutting somebody down, you know what I'm saying? So it's like you see stuff like that, and yeah, there's a fear of rejection, that level of rejection, especially. So at that point in time, again, Bear is coming off as this hopeless romantic, and then he makes the wish on the one wish willow, and he's like, fuck, you know, and the way he worded it, right? Like, he's like, I wish she loved me more than anybody on the fucking planet, and you know, makes the wish. And now all of a sudden, here comes Nikki, and she is even even that wording, that's just him just saying a sentence. Right, it's because here's the thing, yeah. Here's the thing. If you imagine it, you're you're like younger, right? Like 18, 19, 20 years old, and and this sounds whimsical, but let's Disney fy it for a second, and you see a shooting star and you're like, Oh, I wish XYZ. Right. Are you now a villain?
SPEAKER_02Or are you just like, you know, you're just like you're really like typically no, typically no say no, you're not the villain. I think that the the nuance of this character is uh he is a he is a little villain-ish. Yes, because it comes it comes off as okay, for me, it came off slimy, uh not at first, but eventually. And it it got to a certain point once once you realize that Jackie's in there, correct when you realize he's in there, that's where I was leading to. That's where I was leading to because the moment that's when he becomes the villain, correct? Because he couldn't know that he could stop it, right? He didn't know he could stop it, but he at that point knew what he was doing. And there was a couple other moments, right? Yes, where there's the there's the scene where she's he's trying to sneak out of out and she's lying in the room. I was gonna bring that up and she's like off bear, yeah, kill me. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And he asked the question, what's so bad about being with me? And she's like, and the moment she said that, I said, Facts, fair, because that's not Nikki. It's not Nikki. I was like, Yeah, and at that point Oh, that's creepy though. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_02And that part came off the rest of the movie, bro. The rest of the movie, I looked at him so much differently.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because that I think that's for for me, that's where he turned villain. Because I'm like, dude, you know what at this point, you know what you're doing, and you need it, it it needs to stop. You gotta stop.
SPEAKER_02He kind of knew what he was doing the whole time, but he was so distracted by his own motivations, and that's why I think there's a lot of people, probably probably younger generation of people that are gonna watch this film or have already watched this film, and they're probably gonna lean towards that that like Bear's character is a little um uh I don't want to use the word um a little uh fuck please hold. Okay, you know what? I'll use the word grape. Grape is okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think that's the whole metaphor behind the moon.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. For sure, but like um so so when people are asking the question, is he a villain? And we're like, I don't know, not necessarily. I think inherently no, but eventually, yes.
SPEAKER_00He crosses over, yeah. He crosses that line. Yeah, he crosses that line that he should know better, but he obviously he doesn't, especially the part where he does call the hotline, right? And the guy tells him, uh, well, you can't you can off yourself or you know which is crazy, yeah. Which is which is absolutely insane. But then he also considers, you know, what if I get somebody to make a wish about my wish? You know what I'm saying? And because because when he called, remember, he said, I don't want to, because the guy, I think originally when he first answered the phone, he said, Do you want to cancel your wish? And he said, No, I don't want to cancel it, I want to alter it. And at that point, you're like, brother, you're active, yeah. You're you're you're literally like, you know that it's not Nikki. Yeah, and you're like, What do you mean you want to alter it? Like cancel-tune it, right? He wanted to fine tune it, dial this bitch in, right, yeah, right. He said, I want to dial this bitch in.
SPEAKER_02It is that takes the that takes the innocence away, right? Yes, right, right, like right, because at that point you're like done is well, we know he can't cancel it, but he should have like the moral obligation of that scene for all for the audience to to um remain on his side, right? Because we're we're kind of neutral for this whole movie. We're kind of just waiting to see how he how he plays out, yeah. And each time he slowly lets the audience down with every fucking decision for sure. And I he lies to her at the car, yeah, you know, like yeah, it was all that was brutal.
SPEAKER_04It was a great I thought it was a great movie. I thought it was a fun movie.
SPEAKER_02It did exactly what it was supposed to do, and that's why I said it was a good movie, yes, and I enjoyed that, but I also I did not enjoy the like feelings and emotions that it stirred up, right? Because like it wasn't it wasn't like anger um that stirred like I was just like it was more disgust. Yes, I was grossed out, yeah. It was disgust and just like yeah, and disappointed, and just like and then and then it also like brought up like these feelings of like oh shit, like there's there's really people like that. Like this is an exaggerated version, yep, but there's people that obsess like that, absolutely do creepy shit, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely that just to keep people close, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And and it's just and be love blind to the woman that actually was interested in him.
SPEAKER_00Yep, yeah, that part, that part, that that she was there the whole fucking time.
SPEAKER_02Well, because he was in like, man, brother, like he could have built confidence with this woman.
SPEAKER_00Yep, she could have been the person that made him feel confident enough to not be the creeper, and that's why that's why I say, in a way, Bear was really obsessed with Nikki because it made him so blind to the fact that old girl had feelings for him the whole fucking time.
SPEAKER_02I have a question.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02This willow one wish willow thing. Yeah, one wish willow. Do we because it doesn't ever say really unless unless it says it in like his search, like when he's like googling, but to be honest, like watching it in theaters and not being able to pause, I can't really keep up with shit sometimes. Yeah, yeah. Right. Do we think that that was like a demon? So dark magic. So I think I think it yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_00I know if it ever says it doesn't really say, but I think what it is is more like voodoo.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00So dark magic. Yeah, more more dark magic than than a demon.
SPEAKER_02Anything because well, the reason why I was thinking like a demon because because Nikki says like she's sleeping. Right. So there's two versions of her.
SPEAKER_00Correct. Because you have wish Nikki capacity. Yeah, you have wish Nikki, and then you have real Nikki.
SPEAKER_02Which I thought that that was a really, really good use of whatever this is, this magic thing, for her to be trapped inside her mind. Yep. And when he calls the hotline, he's like, Would you like to talk to her? Yeah, he's like, What do you mean? And then she's screaming already.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that it was it was it was such an eerie movie, and I and I think I think a lot of it had to do with like they didn't depend on jump scares like a lot of movies, like a lot of horror movies do, right? Like this.
SPEAKER_02There was one good one, though. There was one good one.
SPEAKER_00I I cannot lie about that. But like you got a lot of movies like The Conjuring. I know Yeti brought that up and and all that kind of stuff, where they rely on jump scares, right? Like that in-your-face horror that that that doesn't really like um like set a lot of dread
Undertone And Horror We Actually Like
SPEAKER_00in. So another movie that I would like you guys to watch, Undertone. Is that the name of the movie? Undertone. That's the name of the movie, Undertone. So so it's a movie about podcasters. And have you watched it?
SPEAKER_04I think no, it wasn't on.
SPEAKER_00I think it's on I think it's on HBO Max. It's either on HBO Max or Hulu. Okay, I'm watching that tomorrow. It is so good.
SPEAKER_04Okay, it is so good. Because I've been watching these horror movies and stuff, and I know we were talking about this. I'm on this horror kick right now, bro. And I've gone to like these Welcome to My World. And I've been typing horror. Like, here's the thing there's horror that I like, and there's horror that I don't like.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And when I say I don't like it, it doesn't mean I won't watch it. And I'm gonna.
SPEAKER_02What's the horror you don't like?
SPEAKER_04Like the slashers. I I'm not a huge fan of seeing nothing but blood and gut.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I'm just not like yeah, I will again, I will watch it. I will because it doesn't bother me like to that extent. It's just if I'm looking like if I were to rate those movies, I'm gonna give them like five because they're just average to me, it doesn't do anything for me. It's right in my eyes, it's just a slash and gash, and let's move on. Yeah, if you give me some psychological thrill thriller behind some stuff, and I'm like, I gotta use my brain a little bit, and it's and it still classifies as a horror movie, and it grabs my attention, I'm there for it. And it's so weird because if you go to the action, I just want the explosives, da da da. I don't care about the storyline.
SPEAKER_00Uh fuck the story, right?
SPEAKER_04But but I mean I mean, that's essentially what it's the opposite for horrors, right? I'm it's a yin and a yang on what I like and don't like for those two genres. I'm with you. Um, but yeah, but horror, I just I have to be pulled in somehow, some way, shape, some shape. Whatever that looks like, whether it's like as a got my attention via thriller, um, via ghostly, because I like the ghostly ones too.
SPEAKER_02Um big paranormal shit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like the paranormal stuff as well. Yeah. So I'm just gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I like I like that stuff with like the the I am like as as much as I like to shit talk religion, I think that they make really good horror proxies because you can you can play around with like angels and demons, and like there's a whole universe that really you can explore because we don't fucking know. Yeah, we don't, right? You know, so I I'm I'm with you on that.
SPEAKER_04And then horror comedy, I'm I'm starting to like that a little bit more. I just watched one. Um They will kill you.
SPEAKER_02What would be a horror an example of horror comedy? They will kill you.
SPEAKER_00They will kill you, they will kill you, or um, or ready or not is uh is a horror comedy. It it it's typically they're like a dark comedy, right? Like that's that's kind of yeah, that's kind of where it's kind of like a lot of things.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so there's so I I'll give you the rundown of what this what this they will kill you was about. I literally just watched it last night on HBO Max.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think so.
SPEAKER_04Yes, HBO Max, and basically this girl goes into an old hotel and she finds out there's some stuff going on in it, and it's horror because these people in there I said I want to give too much, but it involves like Satan, basically. And it's a cult. It's a cult. And but the fight scenes are very the chore the choreography is fucking ridiculous, right?
SPEAKER_00But they're like they're like uh Japanese type type so if you can just envision like what Kill Bill was, but add a horror element to it, yes. Oh, okay, okay. It's yes, it's a fun watch, honestly. It's it's really good.
SPEAKER_04Like if you it it is kind of bloody, is and it is kind of gory. Not kinda, it is bloody. It's gory. It is gory, yeah. It's gory. Um, but I I accept that for that movie because that's the type of movie it was, right? If you're for example, like Jason, would you guys say Jason's a gory movie? I don't know what Jason is.
SPEAKER_00Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_04Okay, Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_02I don't know what that is. I'm sorry, that was me being a dick.
SPEAKER_00Facetious, facetious. Um, I don't know if I would consider it gory. There are parts that are gory. Would you say would you say Friday? I'd say Freddie's Freddie's more gory than Jason is.
SPEAKER_04Okay, that's a perfect example. Like when I watch those movies, I'm just like, eh, okay. Like I watch it, like I watch it just to watch it, but it the gore does nothing. It just whatever.
SPEAKER_02Those movies are so campy to me now. Yeah. Like when I when I want to watch, like when it's Halloween time, it's October, and I want to watch some scary movies that aren't actually scary to me, I'll watch Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yep. There's not a single Friday the 13th movie that I find actually scary. Yeah, right. And then you get to like Freddie versus Jason, and that's just like a fucking action film.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's ridiculous. Right?
SPEAKER_02That's a comedy action film. No, but that would be on Elm Street?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. That would actually fall under, in my opinion, Freddie versus Jason.
SPEAKER_00So, so um, I don't know if you guys ever heard of it. Trick or Treat. Yep. It was made back in like, I don't know, circa 2000 seven, two thousand eight.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Sammy, Sam, Sam, Sammy, Sammy. I actually have not seen it. I know of it. I need to watch it this Halloween.
SPEAKER_00Like, like, are like we're all on the same page of which trick or treat I'm talking about, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think so. The knapsack head?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Have you guys seen it? I have. It's been a long time since I love that movie. It is more it is more of a comedy horror anthology type deal because it tells like different stories happening like at the same on the same night, right? Like on Halloween night. Oh, that's really funny. Yeah, it's it's it's really good. Um, definitely. Definitely check it out. I don't remember what it's on, but it is streaming somewhere.
SPEAKER_04It's on Netflix.
SPEAKER_00There you go. I'm looking at it right now. Trick or Treat is one of my favorite Halloween movies to watch every October. Because it just scratches every itch. It's got slasher elements, it has the psychological horror elements, it's got uh uh uh uh your your monster elements, it's got everything that you could possibly look for in a Halloween movie, in a in a spooky season movie. And I do recommend you guys go see that.
SPEAKER_04Oh well, it's a while since I've seen this.
SPEAKER_00But it is it is solid. But as far as like a horror comedy, that's that's kind of what um Yeti is talking about with uh uh They Will Kill You. Now, it's funny you mention that, but I do want to just take a take a moment and just say that Obsession, they had a budget of $750,000 and they made $300,000.
SPEAKER_04That's not a lot.
SPEAKER_00That's not a lot.
SPEAKER_04That's the point. Like, how did that that that movie did so effing well?
SPEAKER_00And here's the crazy part it was supposed to come to streaming a lot sooner than it did, but because of the success of it, still in theaters, yeah. Because of the success of it, they said, no, no, no, no, no, keep it in theaters because yeah, so many people were gonna go were going to see it, and they were like, they really didn't expect that to happen with obsession because number one, the people that made it, Curry Barker. I don't know if you guys know him, but him and Cooper Tomlinson are actually known for making comedy shorts. And I watched them all the time on Facebook. They're fucking hilarious.
SPEAKER_02They honestly are, they're funny as shit, but they're also making it because that movie was like obsession had some humor. Yes, it was. It was sneaky humor too. Right. I was cracking up throughout that movie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they they're fun. If you ever get to uh if you ever get to check them out, I think it's called um Oh my god, I don't remember the page. I think it's like this is a bad idea or something like that. And and it's Curry Barker and Cooper Tomlinson just going fucking balls to the wall with their comedy. It's fucking great. Um, but they are making just to just to go off of the comedy horror thing, they are making another movie that's supposed to come out later, I think in 2027, possibly.
SPEAKER_04Um probably have a budget of like another $750,000.
SPEAKER_00Some no, I I think it's supposed to be more because they're working with Blumhouse on that one, and I think it's supposed to be like a three million dollar budget or some shit.
SPEAKER_04But it's called Yeah, but if if if the history repeats itself, I mean I know.
SPEAKER_00But it's called anything but ghosts, and it's a comedy horror about two con artists, ghost hunters, who encounter a real ghost. Now, has that story been told before? Absolutely, but I want to see their version of it.
SPEAKER_04It's called What movies have been had it been told in though?
SPEAKER_00What anything the that premise of ghost hunters?
SPEAKER_02So it's it's typically more wrote a comic about that a while back, yeah. Yeah, see, so I submitted it into uh an anthology. So there you go. Really? Yeah. I I want to redo it. Um I want to redo the story. Uh, but it was basically it was basically um ghost hunters go to a uh a cemetery to do this like paranormal investigation, and then the it was kind of kind of like think of like Blair Witch, where they're like were they intentionally doing a documentary, or were they just like teenagers? I haven't seen that.
SPEAKER_00They were intentionally doing a documentary.
SPEAKER_02They were, yes, they were. Or were not okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right. That's what I thought. That's what I thought. And so, like, in the but the what I did is I took the Blair Witch concept and then mixed it with like paranormal investigators.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So they're going to investigate this cemetery and they have an interaction with the ghost, and then they all die.
SPEAKER_00Ah, I gotcha. So so if I'm not mistaken, I think grave encounters kind of work with that premise where they weren't like they were they were creating like fake ghost things, and then they actually encounter real shit happening. And then there was another movie that I watched. These are more like, you know, not like your AAA films, right? Like they're they're more like lesser-known B movies that that that they use this premise on. I don't remember what it's called, but I think it's on Netflix, where they are literally they're literally using this girl that um she turns out to be a real psychic, but they act like she's psychic, and she goes and they kind of con people into you know uh uh uh talking to loved ones and having them move on and all that kind of shit. And then they actually encounter a real like poltergeist and they're like, ah, we don't know what the fuck to do. So but I was I'm interested in seeing that, and again, with the success of horror and the way it's going, horror. I don't know. I'm just I'm I uh again, I want to see Evil Dead Burns, and I have heard some people say that it it it hasn't been as good as the previous installments in the newer franchise, but um the guy who made Evil Dead Burns is really partial to how they've been doing it, where they have different directors on every single movie to get a different perspective on evil the Evil Dead lore.
SPEAKER_04That's pretty interesting. I would like that though, because then that way it doesn't seem repetitive. Right, and that's everyone has everyone has their own niche about them. Yes. Where and you can see that in the same movies over that was just funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, and I and I agree. That would be Yeah, it's it's it's fun to watch because because obviously if you go back and watch the original Evil Deads, they're all they're totally no, they're they're they are very different because the first Evil Dead was more like yeah, it was campy, but it was but it was like pretty it was pretty leaning towards horror, and then Evil Dead 2 was almost like a whole remake of the first Evil Dead, and started leaning into the campiness, and then Army of Darkness was just over the top, Ash has a fucking chainsaw hand.
SPEAKER_04But I I thought that was on purpose though.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was that was the point. Like, like it was I think they used different uh directors, but the point of it was to show the vast difference of each story of each film. They wanted to kind of make it to where it's like you didn't really have to watch the previous film to understand what was going on in this film, right? You can just go in blank slate and have fun. I mean, save for the Evil Dead series that they did that tied into Army of Darkness, it leaned more into again into the campy side of what they were going for in Army of Darkness, but for the most part, every Evil Dead installment has been vastly different than the others. So I like it. I enjoy it.
SPEAKER_04Well, I will say the newer the newer Evil Deads have been fun to watch. Fuck it. I haven't watched Risen yet or Rise. Evil Dead Rise.
SPEAKER_00That I like that one. I do I do enjoy that one quite a bit. When did you see it? What? Evil Dead Rise? Bruh, it's literally on um I think it's on HBM X. I'm pretty sure it is. It's still at the theaters, dog. Not no, that's Evil Dead Burn, brother. Yeah, Evil Dead Burn.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, okay, okay. My bad. That one I yeah, that one I still need to go see. Yeah, give me confused.
SPEAKER_02I was thinking about going seeing that today. I might not, but I was thinking about it. See how it goes.
SPEAKER_00See how it goes. But I don't know. I've always been I've always been like more towards uh horror. I'm always on the lookout for a good horror movie, honestly. And Undertone, I promise you, it's it again, it doesn't it doesn't lean on jump scares and the way it's shot, I love the way it's shot because they always have they never really focus on a character, right? Because you're you really only have like I think maybe three characters throughout the entire movie that they that they focus on, and it's really shot in like one spot. And because again, it's it's pot it's about podcasters that run that they do a paranormal podcast and they talk about you know spooky stuff and all that kind of stuff, and they are sent an email by in a by a like a strange source that has I think it has like 10 recordings, and each one gets stranger and stranger, and the more they listen to it, the straight the stranger shit happens in old girls' house. Yeah, so it's like it's it's pretty neat, and the but the way they sh the way they shoot it, like you like the camera's never focused on her, right? Like you always have like a lot of negative space, yeah. And it kind of gives you that feeling that something's there in the dark looking at you, you know what I mean? And it's just it's very eerie, it's a slow burn kind of kind of horror, but I highly recommend you guys watching that one. I love I might watch it today. Well, I'm watching, I'm watching it tonight. I I am 100% watching it. Yeah, it's it's really good. So just take a look at that one.
Favorite Horror Movies Draft
SPEAKER_00But um, do you guys have a favorite horror movie?
SPEAKER_04I I always go back to the conjuring.
SPEAKER_02I absolutely conjuring that's a good universe.
SPEAKER_04It is that's a good universe. Conjuring, like that favorite for a horror movie hits all my elements that I'm looking for in a horror movie. That's fair. It's not blood and guts, it it it focuses on the psychological part, there's ghosts, there's a little bit of jump scares in it. Like it's it's just every single thing I look forward, right, look forward to in a horror movie. And it's just it's it's in my in it just can't be outdone, right? Now there's some that and it's crazy, um they weren't the greatest, but they're they hang on edge after like Darkness Falls. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Not the greatest. But it was fun, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It did it what it yeah, it did what it was supposed to be. Because like when you got done watching the movie, yeah, the dark, the dark was creepy. Yeah, the dark was creepy after I watched it. Being in the dark was kind of creepy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was like, yeah, let me do let me have a nightlight on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. But Conjuring is a good one. I do like I like that universe. Uh it spawned Annabelle and all that kind of shit, and you know, really leaned into the Ed and Ed and uh uh the paranormal aspect of it. Yeah, the yeah, it was it was it was it was solid. I I could I and then of course the nun that offer that's from spawn spun from that too, right? Yep, yep, yep. Because I think I think it was after the conjuring two because everybody really loved uh the nun if from the conjuring two, so they're like, we need to know more about her.
SPEAKER_04So they gave her a backstory, gave her a backstory, which is which is crazy, like you how that whole thing works, you know. You that you make a movie thinking it's just gonna be this movie, and then like your side character gets all this love, and obviously you're gonna strike while the pan is you know, strike while the pan is hot and be like, you know what, let's go ahead and make a movie. Right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean it's not a bad way to go about it. Um man, I'm really struggling to think of like a favorite. I know, I know I really like Hereditary. I think that that's really well done. Hereditary was good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Midsummer is also another solid.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that one was fucked up, bro. Yes, it was, yeah, yes, it was. Yes, it was.
SPEAKER_02See, like, I don't know. I suck at picking favorites because I like them all.
SPEAKER_04No, that's fair. You know, here's the thing anytime you pick a favorite, you're gonna leave some out. Oh, absolutely. That's you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think this says more about me than anything. Like, I don't want to leave anything out.
SPEAKER_04That's fair.
SPEAKER_00That's fair. I want every single horror movie to be top tier.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. I want them all to win. Okay, if I had if I had to pick an absolute favorite based on just like the horror, the the longevity, the rewatchability, all of it. You could go the shining. I think I am actually. The shining is one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_04When you when you the moment you said longevity, I immediately thought of the shining.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I personally I think the shining is my favorite of like the psychological thriller horror-ish genres. For sure. And I'm sure there's people out there that's gonna be like, The Shining's not a horror film. I don't know, whatever, dude. But like it's one of my favorites. A horror film. Because people like to be different, I guess. I don't know. I could just I could just perceive someone making the argument that it's not oh absolutely like a horror film. Yeah, absolutely. But for me, it I think if I have to pick a favorite, I'm gonna pick the shining. Um, and because it gives me it gives me access to Doctor Sleep. Oh, such a good one.
unknownDr.
SPEAKER_02Sleep. Which was pretty solid. Yeah, yeah, Dr.
SPEAKER_00Sleep was really good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I that's my final answer.
SPEAKER_00Uh, for that's that's a good idea.
SPEAKER_02So not being able to actually pick anything.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. No, that's fair, that's fair, that's fair. Um so for me, honestly, I would probably have to say Paranormal Activity.
Paranormal Activity And Haunting Types
SPEAKER_07And it would specifically have to be so good.
SPEAKER_00It would specifically have to be two, because that was the la in that in that series, that was the last solid entry that actually scared the actual living shit out of me.
SPEAKER_04Because Paranormal Two?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Paranormal Activity Two. What's up, Chris? Because they just kind of left field on me.
SPEAKER_02I'll save I'll I'll save it for after your thought on paranormal activity two.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So paranormal activity two just so obviously after the first one, I was I was hooked. I was like, oh yeah, because again, it wasn't like yes, they had to they they had to get creative in how to scare you because you're you're bad guy, right? You can't see them. You know what I mean? So they had to get really creative, especially as a found footage type type deal. And they did such a good job with paranormal activity, the first one, that people actually believed that was a legitimate found footage. Like people believed that was real. People believed that those two people suffered through what they suffered through, and it was something that was like almost like a snuff film, and they're like, Oh my god, this thing's cursed, blah blah blah blah. So two expanded on that, right? And there was the one moment that get it gets me every single time, and it's when old girl's sitting in the kitchen, and shit's kind of like, you know, it's like kind of near the middle of the film, going toward the end, and she's just like really losing her shit, and things are going on around the house, and then like the moment just every single drawer and cabinet just bursts wide the fuck open, and she's just like, you know, just sitting in the middle of the fucking kitchen, she's like, ah, and she just takes off running. That part gets me every single time, even though I know it's coming, because goddamn, I couldn't imagine that happening. You know what I mean? Like, like, imagine you're just sitting in your kitchen and then just every fucking door and drawer just bursts wide open. You're just like, oh my god, yeah, I'm running out of the house too. I'm lighting that bitch on fire, cure it with fire. Ha ha! But cure it with fire. Um, no, the the series was solid to Yeti's point. They did kind of get out in left field, and that's only because after Paranormal Activity 3, they got kind of ridiculous because the fourth one, they started doing they started crossing dimensions and all that kind of shit. And I was like, Yeah, what are we doing? You know, the third one introduced the cult, right? So, yes, because they they were they went into Katie's past and how this thing followed her into being an adult, and all of a sudden it's a cult thing, and I'm just like, okay, like I can kind of get I can kind of get behind it, you know what I mean? But like I think I think it sold it sold me more when it was just this random couple and it was just this demonic entity that just terrorized these people just because it could. And I think that's that's what you know what I mean, because the idea of less is more for me will always hold true. Like, we don't need to know that the cult is the beginning of this whole thing. I understand you want to create your universe, but like I said, paranormal activity four, when they started doing like different dimensions, I was like, come on, man, like what are we doing? What the fuck are we doing?
SPEAKER_04See, and like here's here's the thing like you didn't I feel like they could uh because I've never I've never seen this and I could be wrong. Could you imagine like if they had if you have turned three into like where they move and a few years goes by and then everything's all great, and then she's working third shift at like a grocery store or something like that, and then the paranormal activity starts happening in that like if you gave it a different scenery, you know what I'm saying? It would almost feel refreshing.
SPEAKER_02I would mean that they're haunted and because like typically my understanding of paranormal activity is the the um the space or an object can be haunted. So if you leave that space or confine that object, that's the whole idea behind um the conjuring. Uh the conjuring, right? That's why they have their their trophy room. Yeah, the warrant. Yeah. Uh so then it becomes it it it so then that would imply that the people are haunted. Correct. And then which I'm not against it, right?
SPEAKER_04So it's not a paranormal, that's not a paranormal activity if the person's haunted.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so necessarily. So, so, so if we're gonna really get into this, because um again, I know in I think maybe our last episode we kind of touched on this. I like I even have a book about ghost hunting. I used to do ghost hunting quite a bit. Me and me and Ken, we used to do that shit. So, I mean, you have you have different kind of haunts that are that are specific. Like you have your residual haunt, which is where the energy is stuck at in a in a spot, Grizz, to your point. Where it's just kind of re-looping things, replaying whatever part of their life. They're just going about their normal right, they're just going about their normal, normal whatever happened when they when they passed. And they're just stuck in this spot because the energy was stuck there for whatever reason. Um, and then you have your intelligent haunts that probably attach to a person or an object or whatever. Like it can communicate with you, it knows what's going on in real time because it is intelligent, it sees what you see, but you don't see where it's at, right? Like, you don't know what it's seeing, which is to me, is fascinating because like what the fuck do they see? You know what I mean? As opposed to what I'm seeing.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Like, do things look totally different? Do they see the same walls that I see? Do they see the same shit that's on these walls? Or do they see something totally different in this whatever dimension place that they're in on this totally different plane than I'm on? It's fascinating, right? But to your point, yes, some like I would say more of an intelligent haunt. I could get behind because technically at the end of the first paranormal activity, um, old girl Katie's boyfriend died because she murked his ass. So I think Katie did get possessed at the end of at the end of the movie, at the end of the first one, so you would have to kind of follow different people, which I would be okay with, because it'd just be like this giant anthology about right. That's right.
SPEAKER_04See, I was just trying to think of a different way of like telling the story instead of involving a cult, involving dimensions. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was just trying to say, like, if you were to just move somewhere and then oh, it starts happening at the supermarket, like a random can.
SPEAKER_00It's just it's just this demonic entity causing hell on Earth, right? Like you could easily pull that off, and you can go as far as you want with it.
Anthology As Horror’s Secret Sauce
SPEAKER_02I think horror's saving grace, in order, like, okay, let me figure out how to say what I want to say. I think, in order to make like a franchise work really well for horror, is to do an anthology. Yep. Like, look at uh uh what was it the uh haunting hill or the house on haunting, yeah. Yeah, that so like there was that, and then didn't they do a second season, but it was called something different?
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so you're talking about the same characters, uh, the same actors, I mean. Same actors.
SPEAKER_00So you're talking about haunting Haunting of Hill House, and then Haunting of Bly Manor, and then they also didn't know uh the the the Death of Usher, whatever it was. So yeah, yeah, yeah. I know I know what you talk about.
SPEAKER_02So it's an anthology, right? And I think that that's the same in Grace for Horror. Is in and I believe that that was originally how Halloween was supposed to be.
SPEAKER_08Yep.
SPEAKER_02John Carpenter originally wanted Halloween 2 to be completely different different because it was supposed to just be an event that happens on Halloween. Right. But people loved Mike Myers so much that he just fell into the capitalistic side of things, and we see how that plays out. But I think that I think that anthology an anthology for horror is like The secret sauce because you can to what you're talking about, like you can just have this demon that just keeps fucking with other people each movie instead of it just being like what it ended up being. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which instead of turning it into so here's this cult and they love Katie, and now Katie has been the sole thing of like why though? Why why do we need that? Why do we need that? What what what made Katie so different from everybody else? You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Who is this Katie? Who's this Katie bitch?
SPEAKER_00Like, what are we doing here? So just born on the wrong day or some shit. No shit, no shit. They're like, you were born on Friday the 12th and not the 13th.
SPEAKER_02There was like a blood moon, and there was a sacrifice at the the witch trials, and she happened to she just she just so happened to be passing by on her bike, and they're like, Right, that's the bitch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's yeah, that's the one. That's the one that you need to follow. That's funny. But no, and and maybe, maybe, possibly, that that could kind of um to your point, Grizz, in anthology is a secret sauce. Maybe that could be the reason why Friday the 13th lasted as long as it did. Because in all reality, Jason was our focal bad guy, right? But he was getting a brand new cast always changed. It was a total different group of campers getting terrible.
SPEAKER_02Friday the 13th is a good series. Yeah, it's just it's it's it is, it's just not scary to me. Correct. Correct.
SPEAKER_04Um, but that's that doesn't mean it's not scary to other people, I just don't right because people find slasher movies to be scary, right? More scary.
SPEAKER_02Me personally, I find them campy, but I was thinking about this last night while I was watching the trailers for um before obsession. For some reason, I think okay, actually, not for some reason, every now and then, especially for Halloween, movie theaters like the AMC Regal, they will do re-releases and and bring a movie back for like a couple nights, maybe one night a week. And they were showing Texas Chainsaw Massacre trailer. Um and it was like the original one. Um maybe it wasn't the original one, but it was one of the older ones. It was definitely like the older one, not an updated one. And watching it, I like chuckling a little bit because it's so campy. His mask is so shitty, and like it's just not I don't find it that scary, but it's one of those like cult classics, everyone loves it. And I think they love it because it is campy, right? And I had the thought when that movie first came out, people went and saw it in theaters, they were terrified. Yeah, right, yeah, because at that time that was the scariest thing available. Yeah, now we've seen better. So, like like well, better is subjective. We've seen scarier and more realistic or more grounded horror content. So when you see something like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, granted it is based off of a true story, I think, or a folklore. Yeah, kind of sort of yeah, uh, but when they do so, those are the types of movies that do well with like fear because it's like, oh, I could see somebody doing this, right?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02Right. That's what makes psycho think Yeah, that's what makes those movies so scary, even when they're not visually that scary. It's the content, it's the it's the it's the what gets in your head, right?
SPEAKER_00The idea that it is possible to happen in my lifetime or to happen to me.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know, so that's those slashers to me are just like they're just campy and kind of corny. Right. And it boils down to like the acting is kind of subpar. You know, like Friday the 13th, the original, with you know, that was like Kevin Bacon's like big break. Yeah, you know, he's not and and like you don't even get Jason in the the hockey mask.
SPEAKER_00Nope, he doesn't get the he's got the he's got the sack over his head, yeah. He's got the sack over his head the whole time. So right, but yeah, stuff stuff like that. Uh what is the secret sauce? And anthology, I think, works perfectly for horror. Yeah, yeah, I I agree with that, but I mean, you know, again, just to just to tie everything together real quick, because we do have to we do have to start wrapping this up, but just to tie everything together, um could that be why horror has been doing so well, especially this year, you know.
The Odyssey And Practical Effects
SPEAKER_00Is that why Supergirl kind of struggled a little bit? I won't say flopped, right? Like, like I'm that's that's kind of harsh to say. I think it's it's not fair, yeah. It's it's not fair to say. So I think I think the Supergirl struggled a little bit. Moana, obviously, no, I think that's a live action. Nobody asked for it.
SPEAKER_02I will stand on this hill and die. That movie should have never been made.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, not the live action. The live action version of Moana should have never like why nobody asks for it.
SPEAKER_02And I will yeah, I will go two steps further and say every Disney animated film that they turn into live action doesn't need to be made.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, because because it's like again, I don't need that. Nobody asks for it.
SPEAKER_02I don't need that. You know what you could do? You want you want to make it a live action in some capacity, turn it into a Broadway show. Yeah, it's already a musical, just put it on stage, exactly, exactly.
SPEAKER_00So, and then of course, we had Masters of the Universe that didn't do so hot again. I don't want to say it flopped, I just don't think it was a successful, yes. We did go see Masters of the Universe, and we haven't talked about it yet.
SPEAKER_02We should talk, we should do it really, really well on streaming, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So is there is there some is there an argument to be made that people are waiting for streaming because life is busy and they don't get the opportunity to go to the go to the theater very often.
SPEAKER_04People are saying you look at the horror movies, I mean uh obsession is.
SPEAKER_00I know, I know. Trust trust me, I get it. They're going to the movies, like people are going to the movies.
SPEAKER_02Horror fans are different than like action fans.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they are. They honestly are.
SPEAKER_02And there's there's not always a crossover.
SPEAKER_00Right. So I I don't know. There's I think I think there's I think there's multiple reasons as to why you know the the the your typical blockbusters have kind of you know kind of waned a little bit. I mean, I think I think the latest Avatar did did okay, but yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I mean if I look at the numbers right now, Moana, they've done 191 million worldwide, and they had what 250 million.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they flopped. They they flopped harder than harder than shit.
SPEAKER_02So I don't think that budget probably all went to the rock.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. I think I think what it honestly, what it comes down to and is winning.
SPEAKER_03And and here's the other thing, too. You see, here's the thing.
SPEAKER_00The Odyssey, sorry, the Odyssey's doing great, oh crazy, doing fantastic, doing fantastic. So the Odyssey wanted it to be.
SPEAKER_02But it's Christopher Nolan.
SPEAKER_04Christopher Nolan has a track history of amazing movies, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because why he tells a good story, yeah. He tells a good story, right? Like, he like have you seen the press? Like, all these actors are so excited to talk about this film. Yeah, why is that? Because they have practical effects on stage, yeah. Like Tom Holland, most of his most of his adult career has been green screen. Spider Man screen, yeah, Spider-Man is geeking the fuck out because there's a there's real props on stage.
SPEAKER_04Yep, yo, it's it's like watching some of that stuff was was pretty cool because like yeah, even watching the ship on the water, like yeah, it didn't look CGI, and if it was CGI, wow, Christopher Nolan did not use any CGI.
SPEAKER_02That that boat, they were they're on the Mediterranean. Yeah, they're on the Mediterranean.
SPEAKER_00That's what I thought. Christopher Nolan did not use any CGI. That's a giant puppet. That's a giant puppet. See, obviously, obviously, obviously, he used behind it. He used some visual effects, obviously, you know, to make to clean it up. But right, but they're using real yeah, when they were filming, they were using actual shit, which is what makes CGI honestly it look it makes it look better when you utilize something to put that frame on. When you ground it, yes, right, instead of just making something out of thin air.
SPEAKER_02The giants, they're actual people. Uh they're they're actual like six, eight tall athletes. Yep. That that famous shot of uh Odysseus standing in front of them. Yep, yeah, uh, that's a also a real stunt double, and it's just like a five-foot tall woman.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a woman.
SPEAKER_02And then they use forced perspective with the camera to make those those six eight.
SPEAKER_00That's caring about your craft, brother. That's caring about your craft.
SPEAKER_04That's what makes the movie even more. I need to watch that.
SPEAKER_02That's why this movie is making money, though. Exactly. Story. People people say, like, oh well, you of course it's gonna do well. Look at the cast. No, it's no people wanted it to ball the cast. Actors do make the movie better, obviously, to some degree, but you could get a bunch of nobodies to play that movie, and it would still do it would still do just as well. It would still do good, it would still do just as well.
SPEAKER_00Yep, yep. I agree. So, what is the secret sauce for horror right now? I don't know, but they need to stick to this formula and not fall off because I I think it's originality.
SPEAKER_04I think it's originality, could be people are attracted to the originality. What's up, Chris?
Originality Vs Franchise Overload
SPEAKER_02And so to to have a couple closing thoughts so we can wrap up. Um, there was um one thing I wanted to say earlier uh was I think that the original Saul is up there with like one of my favorite films. Yeah, no, because like the the like it's a slasher, or maybe not a slasher, it's a gore gorish movie.
SPEAKER_00The first saw I don't think is much.
SPEAKER_02The thing that I like about the first saw is originality, yeah, and there's actually a way out. Yep. Right? And like it's just a really well done story, and I think that I think that that could be a contributing factor to like what makes these horror films outperform like some of the bigger blockbusters is people just crave originality or or just authenticity or or or or or like a a fucking someone that gives a shit.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_02Like I think that that makes a big difference. And then um the second thing that I wanted to add that I think really contributes to what we're talking about is this isn't the first time that we've seen superhero films or superhero content, rather, suffer um because of it being kind of like forced down our throats. If you if you reflect back, all the all the comic nerds out there, if you reflect back to like World War II, right before World War II, yeah, we had all these superhero hero comics, and then World War II we had like Captain America fighting Hitler and like all this, and it was just all these superhero content to kind of just like distract and and ease everything because there's fucking war going on, right? And everyone well after it ended, everyone was like, We kind of want to break from the war, right? Like all this like bullshit. So then you saw like the the comic, um, I think it's called like the comic code. I can't remember off the top of my head right now. I'm a little fried. Um they you know they they like they basically restricted the amount of superhero content that was allowed to be made and was forcing like more dramas and comedies and love stories. So that's why we got things like Archie and other other types of stories, and I think we're kind of seeing that right now, not not war driven necessarily, but like just like over saturation driven, yeah. Like Disney came in, bought up all these properties because they saw how crazy the industry was, yeah, went to the city. And then they just they just fucking waterboarded the piss out of us, yeah. Yeah, and like, yeah, I'm so grateful that we get to see all these characters come to the big screen. I'm so it's so cool, but like, could you slow down a little bit, dude? Just a smidge.
SPEAKER_00Because the Disney Plus stunt was my biggest gripe about the whole thing. Because I was like, why are you forcing me to another streaming service to just to keep up with these with these films that you're doing? Like, I don't think I think that's where they fucked up. I think Disney did way too much.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, kind of going kind of going off of that. It's just kind of like how I feel right now. Would you say we're around the same time during the first phase approaching endgame? Would you say we're roughly around the same time frame?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. I'm gonna say something controversial. Marvel died after Endgame to me. Oh my god. That is pretty controversial. That is very controversial. Because the because the only the only thing that I've cared about since Endgame is the Spider-Man storyline. Everything else, everything else is a wash. I enjoyed Fantastic Four. I think it's cool, but it's not it's not it's not up there. Like Fantastic Four, you removed Pedro Pascal and uh Joseph Quinn from that movie, and I think you you replaced those two actors, and that movie doesn't get the same recognition. It was a good movie. I enjoyed it. I think majority of the people that went to saw it were lusting over two characters.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, probably. I could see that. I could see that because it was hot. I mean, hot off the heels of The Mandalorian and Stranger Things, where Joseph don't get me wrong, it is a good movie, it has great visuals.
SPEAKER_02I love the Silver Surfer fucking surfing on the Stardust and the Black Hole.
SPEAKER_00That was dope.
SPEAKER_02Great visuals, it was a solid film. I just that's my personal opinion on it. I think you remove those two actors and replace them, that movie doesn't do as good. Uh because the story wasn't that great, in my opinion. Uh, I the story wasn't too.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I mean I will say the story wasn't it could have been better, it could have been reverted.
SPEAKER_02It was probably an average story. It had wonderful visuals. That movie had amazing visuals. It didn't that was a saving grace.
SPEAKER_00It did almost feel like it was more, it was kind of more so an introduction to Doctor Doom, right? Like it was just yes, it was just kind of leading up to that.
SPEAKER_02They've done this. Marvel's been doing this for years, they keep fucking up their their best franchises. Now X-Men fantastic fools. All right, all right, all right.
SPEAKER_04We gotta be fair though. Hold on. To be fair, their big bad, they they've had to spend two years fixing jumping at home.
SPEAKER_00I know, yeah, it's I know which which again they didn't, they didn't, but yeah, because yeah, okay, you're right. Okay, Jake. Yeah, we gotta we gotta we gotta wrap all this up because we got we got stuff to do. Yeah, just pin that, pin that that could be a whole conversation itself. But just to wrap up, um, let us know what your favorite horror movie has been so far. Did you see Obsession? Have you liked Obsession? Have you fallen in love with Indy? Like, she is she's becoming a a quick fan favorite, especially with her being a gamer and and all that kind of stuff. So um you you just let us know. Um, tell us what you think the secret sauce is for the horror, for the horror genre, and why it's doing so well right now. Um, right now, we I think Grizz has a high thought that he needs to give us real quick.
Vegan Beef And Movie Deletion Game
SPEAKER_02Yes, I do. Let me let me pull this. Is why I wrote it down earlier because I already forgot it. Fair enough. Okay, okay. If two vegans are arguing, is it still considered beef?
SPEAKER_00We just call that an impossible burger. Yeah, we call that we call it impossible beef.
SPEAKER_02It's an impossible argument. It's an impossible argument.
SPEAKER_00That's that's that's what I'm gonna say. It's an impossible burger. That's that's that's what that is. So it's like it's fake beef that's supposed to be real beef. Artificial artificial beef. That's what we're calling it. Artificial beef. Don't don't miss me with that cauliflower patty. You know what I'm saying? I'm sorry. All right. Um, you tell us what you think that is if two vegans are arguing. Is it considered beef, or what do you call it? I mean, what do you call it? We want to know, you know what I mean? So um fun and game. They're probably just vegan. They probably are just vegan. I mean, they're they're beef and vegans. Beef and vegans.
SPEAKER_02Yo, are you two vegan? Yeah, right. Y'all vegan right now?
SPEAKER_01A y'all vegan right now?
SPEAKER_00That's actually crazy. Don't you verb me?
SPEAKER_02Oh, man, that's funny.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, fun and games, real quick. Uh, I want you to do I want you to delete one movie from existence, and it's very funny that we got into that little bit of a topic at the end there. Okay, you ready? Delete one movie from existence. James Gunn Superman. Oh. Spider-Man No Way Home. Deadpool and Wolverine, or the new Fantastic Four.
SPEAKER_07Fuck.
SPEAKER_00Delete one from existence.
SPEAKER_04That's not fair. I can't. That's not fair. Nah, I'll just sign it off. Because he said, I'm done.
SPEAKER_02He said, I can't, you can't maybe pay it. I can turn this in, but no, I can just fail. I can get a goose egg.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're not wrong. I know Yeti's not gonna pick Fantastic. Hell no.
SPEAKER_02Because that's got his that's got his of all time.
SPEAKER_03Um that would be my go-to movie to delete. Yeah, I can't because of Silver Surfer. Because of Silver Server.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I man, that's tough. That's tough. I apologize in advance, but it is gonna be Fantastic Four for me.
SPEAKER_00Oh, damn.
SPEAKER_04Yeti that name Deadpool and Movereen because like they brought X Men, like they brought all these characters that we grew up with to the fucking screen again. That one might be the best one out of the bunch.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, that's tough. That is tough.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08That's tough.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna say the only thing I liked about Spider-Man No Way Home was the fact that we got all three Spider-Man. But that is like the big I think that's like the main takeaway.
SPEAKER_00That's a big takeaway in the movie. Yeah, it's a big takeaway.
SPEAKER_02If that didn't happen on that movie, I would get rid of that one. Okay. I think because I think that I'm I'm invested in the the Spider-Man Tom Holland story arc. But I do think that Disney's getting a little lazy with the writing a little bit. Well, so I'm curious on how this next one. I think Brand New Day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think Brandon Day.
SPEAKER_02Because I will say No Way Home was the weakest of the Spider-Man saga. Uh yeah, I know. I do like that it was the three Spider-Man, there was some cool stuff. So there is there was good stuff that happened. Right? But I just I don't know. Maybe I'm a really hard critic.
SPEAKER_00I'll quit I'll quickly just say I think I think No Way Home was a solid arc for our um Tom Holland Spider-Man in the MCU to really kind of drive home um how to be a better superhero because obviously he he went through his his kind of end that way. Yeah, his Uncle Ben thing where he lost Aunt May. And and you know, he wanted he wanted Goblin dead. And honestly, if Toby's Spider-Man didn't pop in Green Goblin Got it, he's done. He's done. He's done because he's ready to stab dude through the entire torso with his glider. Literally hanging over his, he's holding it over his head, just ready to just rain down hell on this guy. And Toby's like, don't do this because I've been down this road before.
SPEAKER_02How many Spider-Man movies are there?
SPEAKER_00So there's three for Tom Holland. There's three for Tom Holland. Four.
SPEAKER_02There's about to be four. There's about to be four.
SPEAKER_00There's three right now, three out officially. Homecomings of Homecomings. And then Far From Home, Far From Home, and then and then No Way Home.
SPEAKER_02Is Far From Home the one where Tony Stark was like away?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he did like the favorite one.
SPEAKER_02That is a good one. It's solid. Okay. I'm it's tough because, like, I don't think it was fair for me to say that the third Spider Man movie was the. Weakest of the saga because it does have a pivotal moment.
SPEAKER_04It's tough. I ain't out of them three. I ain't tough.
SPEAKER_00No. It's tough. So anyway, um, Yeti, what what would you say you get rid of? Which one would you delete? I know you're trying to I know you're trying to make me forget, but I'm not gonna forget. Which one which one would you delete? I need an answer.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this, and it is what it is. It's gonna have to be super it's gonna have to be super I absolutely love that movie. I I really, really do. Damn, that's great. But I love I love the Spider-Man movies. Um I love No Way Home. Absolutely did. It was so much, so much fun to watch. Oof, that's crazy. Um, and like I said, Wolverine Deadpool. I mean, you're technically that one. That's the best one. Yeah, you're just uh it's tough.
SPEAKER_02I can accept, I can accept like I would okay. I would say Superman and and Fi Fantastic Four are the two weakest of the four.
SPEAKER_00No, it's not, but here's here's here's where I'm talking about Lamborghinis and Ferrary again, again, two shows in a row. So I would I would just say James Gunn Superman, only because it was it's just the beginning of his of his run for DC, right? Like, like honestly, if we don't have James Gunn Superman, it is what it is.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we won't have Supergirl, but listen to that though, because if this turns out to be a a fabulous I hear you crazy run, I hear you. Superman is gonna be considered a classic because of what it's Superman is gonna be Iron Man is to Marvel. Trust me, I get it. I get it.
SPEAKER_02Is each time they've tried, it there's been just letdown after letdown.
SPEAKER_00No, you're right. You're right.
SPEAKER_02I I enjoyed the the very, very first one. Um with uh I actually liked the Silver Surfer.
SPEAKER_00Oh, Chris Evans and Cascalba. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. I I liked that one and the Silver Surfer one. I thought they were fine. I actually haven't seen the the the reboot. The third one. Oh, with my with Michael B. Jordan. Yeah, and Michael B. Jordan was uh teller.
SPEAKER_04That one was not good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I haven't seen it. I do want to watch it just to judge it, you know, like to give fairness. I don't know why.
SPEAKER_00There's no reason to make it the dark because it was it was around the time when Man of Steel came out, and that's what everybody was that that was the that was the train everybody was jumping on. They want the darker, you know, the the Christopher Nolan Batman feel. That's what everybody was trying to go for. And terrible listen, listen. Why are you following why are you following Batman? Why are you following Batman when Batman is supposed to be more of a darker character, right? Like we don't need that. Save that for Batman. Anyway, whole nother conversation. You let us know which which film you would delete from existence.
SPEAKER_04Hold on, that's a tough one.
SPEAKER_00I said Superman. That's the and I and I said the only reason why, because it's the beginning of uh James Gunn's DC universe, and I'm just kind of like, I don't know. That's the only reason why. That's the only reasoning I have here. The rest of them are kind of like established. So, anyway, who wants a fun fact so we can wrap this up?
SPEAKER_04Let's hear it.
Plants Came Before Seeds
SPEAKER_00You know. That plants came before seeds. And what a strange way to say that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Plants came before seeds. So, would you like to know more about it? Which came first, the plant or the seed? Forget about the chicken and the egg conundrum. This botanical argument has a resolution covering millions of years. The earliest fossils of complex land plants date from around 470 million years ago. They resembled liverworts, a kind of simple moss, and reproduced by releasing spores, which were carried away when it rained. Spores contain a single cell, whereas a seed contains a multicellular, fertilized embryo that is protected from drying out by a tough coat. These extra features took another 150 million years to evolve, whereupon the first seed-bearing plants emerged. So plants came first by a long way. So there you go.
SPEAKER_04Plants came four seeds.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Which one came first? Of course it did. Anyway, we do have to wrap this up.

Um, and we will discuss Christopher Nolan's success in that giant epic. It was funny when Yeti, after Yeti seen it and I picked him up from the theater Grizz, and he was like, hey, so fun fact, I know a lot of that story. I was like, I hope you do, because we all read the book back in high school, so I think we all know the epic of Odysseus. And he's like, Yeah, I knew a lot, I knew a lot about what they were talking about. I was like, it's fun, right? It's fun to kind of know like the story and then see it come to life, and you're like, oh shit, that's crazy. Because I remember reading that. That's night, that's neat. So anyway, we'll talk about that during that show. But until then, say ta-ta to your fans. Peace out, bitch. Damn.
